Job description

The Staff Accountant will provide accounting support to the Director of Finance and other departments at Port KC. The Staff Accountant will be responsible for accounts payable and accounts receivable, and assist with leasing schedules and journal entries. The Staff Accountant will also assist with monthly financial statements, compliance, internal controls, and development finance compliance and data tracking. Additional functions include identifying areas of improvement and cost savings and other projects and duties as assigned.

Key Responsibilities

  • Manage accounts payable systems, processes, and workflow software
  • Manage W-9 files and annual 1099-MISC reporting
  • Manage monthly tenant and other invoices
  • Assist with leasing schedules and journal entries
  • Record deposits and manage check retention policies
  • Monitor accounts receivable, aging reports, and coordinate collections
  • Assist with month-end closing procedures and reporting
  • Assist with annual and special audits
  • Assist in development finance compliance and data tracking
  • Other duties and special projects as assigned, which may go beyond the accounting or finance discipline
  • Some local travel required

What You Need To Succeed

  • Bachelor’s Degree in Accounting, Finance, or equivalent (Including May 2026 graduates)
  • Data entry experience
  • Strong data and analytical skills
  • Excellent communication skills, both written and verbal
  • Highly organized and detail-oriented
  • Ability to work independently and collaboratively
  • Preferred Qualification

  • Relevant certification or intention to become certified with relevant certification (CPA, CMA, or other)
