Founded in 1979, The Chicago School of Professional Psychology is an independent professional undergraduate and graduate school with a dynamic student body and a professionally accomplished faculty.

Our College of Nursing and Advanced Health Professions department, curriculum and training opportunities prepare graduates to deliver outstanding professional services emphasizing the ability to understand and work with diverse populations.

Position Summary :

The College of Nursing and Advanced Health Professions is seeking adjunct and part-time evening and weekend didactic and clinical nursing faculty whose role is to contribute to the development and enhancement , act as a student advisor for student professional and academic goals and deliver effective professionally inspired pedagogy in way that ensures teaching quality that meets or exceeds TCSPP’s high standard of teaching excellence.

Principal Duties : Teaching

Teaching

Utilization of effective on-ground, on-site, and online teaching platforms to coordinate clinical activities, assignments, discussions, and grading

Instruct and supervise students using the most up to date subject matter and pedagogical best practices while incorporating consistent and constructive feedback throughout the learning process

Maintain readiness for each clinical by reviewing and / or preparing all relevant class materials and pre-class assignments prior to the start of each clinical class

Incorporate innovative pedagogies to facilitate student learning for NCLEX examination preparation

Course Development

Provide insight and suggestions for didactic or clinical course syllabi development, materials, assignments, quizzes and exams per departmental guidelines and student needs

Act as first point of contact for any instructors teaching a class that you maintain oversight of and provide support as needed

Institutional Development

Attend national and departmental academic committee meeting as needed and participate in the completion of applicable deliverables related to clinical teaching

Student Advising

Maintain open and regular office hours for students and meet with them to discuss academic advisement, guidance on clinical educational improvements, and developmental or disciplinary issues

Responding to all student emails and inquiries regarding academic and or professional issues

Essential Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities :

Experience in the following clinical nursing areas preferred : pediatrics, ob / gyn, med-surg, nursing skills / simulation, pharmacology, and able to do 1 or 2 Saturdays / month

Clinical Faculty

Maintain clinical supervision of the assigned group(s) of students in the clinical and laboratory settings. This supervision shall include but is not limited to the following :

a. Prepare appropriate plans, materials, and learning activities for students to achieve the learning outcomes of each class.

b. Orient students to the clinical unit.

c. Select appropriate learning experiences for the assigned student group(s), i.e., client / patient assignments and planning clinical conferences.

d. Observation of the students’ performance, guidance of the students’ performance, review of procedures and principles as necessary, on-the-spot instruction as appropriate.

e. Evaluation of students’ clinical performance in writing on a weekly basis and verbally, as needed, on an individual basis, including written feedback on but not limited to the following : i.

e Care plans ii. Specialty rotation papers (when assigned) iii. Research projects (when assigned) iv. Medication cards, pathophysiology cards, case studies, and NOC, NIC, and NANDA diagnoses

f. Documenting clinical observations and / or any appropriate incidents which may occur during the clinical experience.

g. Consulting with students individually and / or in groups to review and / or evaluate progression towards clinical outcomes and identify teaching strategies that could be reinforced or adjusted.

h. Construct and administer tests, clinical evaluation forms, and / or other means, for measuring student learning. Upon evaluating such performance for each instructional period, report a grade for each student to the Program Chair or Registrar by the assigned date due.

i. Maintain any student records appropriate to regular college procedure and assessment practice. j. Use survey forms as designated to obtain evaluation feedback regarding performance.

Maintain a cooperative, positive relationship with the staff on any unit of the healthcare facility assigned to facilitate the optimum learning environment for the students.

Maintain effective, on-going communication with the Lead Instructor (and / or Program Chair if appropriate) concerning student progress and / or concerns.

Presentation of Material - Material are presented in a way that maximizes student interest and response and independent learning.

Expertise in the Field - Is an expert in the field and can convey the relevance of his / her knowledge to students.

Syllabi and Course Objectives - Manage syllabi and course objectives visibly well-organized and clear. Discusses changes / improvements with department.

Canvas - Ability to learn and use the Canvas online teaching platform to coordinate student activity and discussion

Grading-Utilize appropriate rubrics and / or evidence-based grading criteria for grading and inputting of grades in accordance with university policies to meet deadlines and ensure fair grading practices

Position Qualifications :

Doctoral Degree in nursing or related healthcare field preferred

Master's degree in nursing

Active and unencumbered RN License

A minimum of two years recent clinical teaching experience

Recent clinical nursing experience in a hospital setting within the last 3 years

Didactic Faculty

Experience in the following nursing teaching roles preferred : anatomy & physiology, pharmacology, microbiology, pathophysiology, pediatrics, ob / gyn, med-surg, and available 1 Saturday a month, if needed.

Compensation & Benefits

This opportunity is budgeted at $1,124-1,540 per credit and may vary per course with student enrollment. Additional compensation factors may impact total compensation.
