Job Responsibilities :

Caseworker- Intensive Tracking

Position Summary : Provide intensive in-home monitoring and support to at risk juveniles, who are either at high risk for placement out of their homes or returning to their homes from corrections or other institutional placements, with the goal of maintaining these juveniles successfully in their homes / community.

Essential Functions :

  • Process assigned referrals, opening electronic and paper files.
  • Attend initial staffing and follow up case reviews.
  • Maintain face-to-face contact with the juveniles in their homes, at school, and in the community, as determined at the initial staffing and follow up reviews.
  • Provide youth with intensive support, mentoring, and monitoring to assist them with the specific areas of focus as determined at the initial staffing.
  • Ensure youth follow through with their court ordered supervision and Department of Human Service Treatment Planning.
  • Provide 24-hour coverage, via cell s, for crisis intervention and response to violations.
  • Maintain regular, weekly minimum contact with the social worker to collaborate on the youths’ behavior / progress, to report any concerns or violations of their court order as they occur.
  • Attend any / all necessary Department staffings or court hearings, as requested by the social worker.
  • Maintain regular contact with the parents / guardian, as determined at the initial staffing, to collaborate on the youth’s behavior and to provide ongoing support to the caretakers.
  • Maintain contact with the youth, schools, as determined necessary and appropriate at the initial staffing, to monitor the juveniles’ compliance with attendance and behavior at school.
  • Provide coverage for other IT Caseworkers’ caseloads when they are absent from work, when necessary.
  • Complete all necessary paperwork and participant reports per policy / procedure.
  • Enter and maintain database as required by the program.
  • Monitor youth on the electronic monitoring (EM) bracelet.Per EM policy manual, responsible for hook-ups / placement of clients on the system;
  • maintaining proper care and return of EM equipment; monitoring clients’ schedules and follow through with the conditions / rules of electronic monitoring;

having regular contact with the Monitoring Center / parents / social workers in response and follow up to violations; and completing the necessary paperwork and reports in regards to clients on the bracelet.

Document after hour calls on the 24 hour cell in a log, update and maintain timely entries, providing the information to the supervisor upon request.

Other Duties and Responsibilities :

  • Attend and contribute to JIS (Juvenile Intensive Services) Department staff meetings.
  • Provide assistance by taking on Home Detention cases when necessary and appropriate, and following the duties and responsibilities as outlined in those position descriptions
  • Assist with answering the office when necessary.
  • Other job related duties as may be necessary to carry out the responsibilities of the position.

Job Qualifications :

Minimal Qualifications : Bachelor’s Degree in Human Services field; Knowledge of the Juvenile Justice System; May substitute Bachelor’s Degree with Associate Degree plus extensive experience in the field with juveniles and bilingual;

Must pass criminal background check; Valid driver’s license and insured automobile required.

  • Knowledge, Skills and Abilities : Knowledge of the Juvenile Justice System : Excellent verbal and written communication skills;
  • ability to respond to crisis situations; Solid computer skills; Ability to work with diverse juvenile offender population;

Good organizational skills with the ability to multi-task and prioritize workload, must be trained in all WCS required Evidence Based Principals within 90 days of hire and follow models of fidelity established by the agency.

Other Job Information (if applicable) :

  • Working Conditions : The majority of work is conducted out of the office, requiring extensive driving throughout Waukesha County;
  • Individual meetings with juvenile offenders in home, at school, and in the community; Transport clients; Office work to complete computer and paperwork;
  • Average 40 hours per week; Flexible work schedule, includes 24-hour, 7 days per week on-call, crisis pager (must be available for coverage to handle crisis calls from clients / parents);

Must attend DHS staffing and court appearances.

Physical Demands : Ability to conduct extensive driving in Waukesha County for long periods of time; Ability to sit at work station for up to 2 hours at a time;

Requires hand and finger dexterity.
