Job description
Join Holland & Hart’s Renewable Energy team and be part of the clean energy transition!

We work on cutting-edge wind, solar, geothermal, hydrogen, and battery storage projects across the country.

Our clients have been involved with renewable energy development and finance for nearly two decades, and they continue to push the boundaries of renewable, sustainable and green projects, technologies and services. We also work with conventional energy producers as they shift from fossil fuels to clean energy sources.

Developers, investors, borrowers, corporate buyers, and utilities involved in developing, financing, buying, selling, and managing renewable energy projects trust us to handle their sophisticated projects and value our experience and expertise as we deliver creative yet practical solutions.

Here’s What You Can Expect:

•Work with clients at the forefront of the clean energy industry on first-rate projects from Alaska to New York.
•A dynamic team of lawyers who have worked for more than a decade building an impressive and loyal client base.
•Well-being and flexibility are important to us. Choose where you work (remote within H&H’s geographical footprint, hybrid, in-office) and hours that allow you to take care of yourself, your family, and your clients. Live your full life.
•Diversity also matters to us. 83% of our partners and 66% of our team members are women.
•Hands-on experience and ownership of work from day one—yes, you’ll work directly with clients.
•Real mentorship and training from experienced partners who are truly invested in you and your professional growth.
•A three-tiered career progression approach designed to prepare you to become a business owner/partner if that’s your goal. Our levels approach allows you progress through levels at your own individual pace rather than a “lock-step system,” and we do not have an “up or out” policy. If you’re not interested in partnership, there are also career pathways for attorneys to become strong, technical lawyers.
•Frequent feedback, including clearly defined core competencies and benchmarks so you know what is expected of you.

Position Requirements:
Ideal candidates will have 3 to 7 years of law firm experience in project development, finance, mergers & acquisitions, and commercial contracts. Experience working in the renewable energy industry and experience with power purchase agreements, hedge contacts, equipment supply contracts, construction contracts or similar agreements is preferred but not required.

You are team-oriented, enjoy collaborating, and have strong written and oral communication skills.

Compensation and Expectations :
Holland & Hart’s compensation is merit-based—you’ll be evaluated on your individual performance and achievements. As required by the Colorado Equal Pay Act, Holland & Hart is providing a good faith salary range for this position (if based in Colorado): $190,000 - $255,000.

Our generous bonus program rewards financial contributions and hard work and associates are also eligible for fee splits.

Holland & Hart expects associates to invest 1800 hours on billable matters, 75 hours of pro bono/public service work (or 50 hours of pro bono legal work), including at least 25 hours dedicated to diversity, equity, and inclusion. Contributions to the life of the firm is vital to the collective success of the firm, and we encourage our lawyers to engage in ways each person finds meaningful through various committees and firm activities.

DEI Matters Here: Holland & Hart was an early trailblazer in DEI initiatives. Diversity, equity, and inclusion are more than core values—they are critical to our business success. Diversity, equity, and inclusion are integral to the firm’s strategic initiatives of building dynamic teams to serve clients more effectively and with greater creativity and innovation. Through our Diversity Plan and initiatives inside and outside the firm, we continually strive to create a culture of inclusion and acceptance. For more information about recent initiatives, please visit: Holland & Hart is an equal opportunity employer.

Professional Development:
Our mission is to inspire our associates to achieve their growth potential across three core areas: Revenue Experience, Client Experience, and Talent Experience. We offer robust professional and business development training to help you identify short- and long-term goals so you can shape your own career. Through coaching, training, and the flexibility of our levels system, we meet you where you are in your legal experience, career stage, market, and personal interests.

Benefits Summary:
Holland & Hart promotes work/life balance with a robust wellness program, unlimited PTO, a reduced time program, and a sabbatical program for eligible employees and partners. Full-time employees become eligible for benefits on the date of hire, with a benefits offering that includes medical, dental, vision, life, AD&D, EAP, STD, and LTD. Additionally the firm provides enhanced parental leave for both primary and non-primary caregivers as well as an automatic Off Ramp/On Ramp program before and after parental leave. The firm offers inclusive fertility and family benefits. Also available are voluntary income protection benefits such as supplemental life, accident, critical illness, and long-term care insurances, as well as a 401(k)-retirement plan with a company match. In addition, the firm has programs that may provide for educational assistance, a subscription service for continuing legal education programs, free or discounted legal services, and opportunities through the Holland & Hart Foundation, which is a non-profit organization dedicated to creating volunteer opportunities for lawyers, staff, families, and friends of Holland & Hart LLP. Part-time employees may have access to some of these benefits, which may be on a pro-rated basis.

Application Process:
Please apply online to submit a resume, cover letter, and law school transcript to the attention of Leslie Beard, Recruiting & Onboarding Coordinator. No phone calls, please. Search firm inquiries may be directed to Lisa Liss

Explanation of Voluntary Self Identification Opportunity for EEO-1 and Mansfield Certification (Section II): Holland & Hart LLP (the “Firm”) may be required by federal law to compile and file a report (referred to as an “EEO-1”) with the Equal Employment Opportunity Commission. Such a report would only contain aggregated data of applicants’ gender, race and/or ethnicity, and would not identify applicants by name. Some states in which the Firm does business may also require the collection of such information. We provide every applicant, current employee, and newly hired employee the option to voluntarily supply the requested information and, if hired, to take advantage of firm-sponsored programs and initiatives that may benefit them.

Having achieved Mansfield Certification and Mansfield Certification Plus every year, along with other awards and recognitions, Holland & Hart continues its efforts to ensure that it has an applicant base that is comprised of individuals of diverse backgrounds and experiences, reflecting the communities and clients we serve.

Your participation in this Section is entirely voluntary and the status of your application or your potential employment will not be affected by your decision to participate or to refrain from participating in this data collection process.

The firm also gathers data regarding veteran status and LGBTQ+, both of which are not required for EEO-1 reporting purposes, however data related to LGBTQ+ data is requested as part of the Mansfield Certification reporting and allows us to extend opportunities that may be available inside and outside of the Firm (to LGBTQ+ individuals, allies, and any other interested persons). Your decision to provide the information is also entirely voluntary, and your candidacy will not be affected by your decision to participate or not.
