Job Description
The Field Applications Engineer is responsible for developing, servicing, training and supporting both the customer test equipment and customer personnel. The primary focus is customer service experience working with dynamometer control software to integrate customer test requests, performing test equipment calibrations, and executing troubleshooting efforts on test cell equipment. This role requires the ability to successfully manage tasks and assignments in multiple areas. Initiative and ownership of responsibilities are critical to the success of this individual.
Essential Duties and Responsibilities :
- Commission Dynamometer Test Systems utilizing the following components :
Windows OS HMIs, Real time Computers using an RTOS
FPGA / Instrumentation / PLCs / Third party softwareInduction, permanent magnet and DC dynamometers, AC drives and DC drivesAncillary Equipment (coolant and oil conditioning, etc.)Configure equipment using the following communication protocolsEtherCAT, Modbus Variants, Profibus, AK Engine, UDP
Serial (RS-232, RS-485)FlexRay, CAN (and variants)Controller setup, calibration, commissioning, service, and warranty tasks for test systemsDevelop LabVIEW programs for Dynamometer controller and Automated Test Equipment to meet customer needsAnalyze Data generated from Dynamometers and create custom reports for Customers using LabVIEW and DiademAssist customer technical issues and problem resolution to debug Software and Hardware problemsCreate, review and document Software requirement specifications, Test Plans, Software Change Requests, and Software User ManualsParticipate in Software Design reviews, code reviews, and project update meetingsInteract with internal and external customers for troubleshooting and debugging softwareContinued learning of new methods and equipment to improve job capabilities and testingTrain customers on using REPS Dynamometer Testing softwareCreate reports based on work completed for customer approvalTracking time spent on jobs and other tasks.Generate parts lists and order sheets for troubleshooting efforts and support workAssists in supporting the UTAC culture and values (Integrity, Expertise, and Innovation)Performs other duties as assignedQualifications
Education and Skill Requirements :
Bachelor’s or equivalent experienceFamiliarity with LabVIEW and PLC programmingAbility to understand different programming languagesA reliable vehicle and valid driver’s license to travel to customer sites3 years of relevant work experience requiredFamiliarity with automotive testing procedures and test definitionsExperience with hands-on projectsKnowledge of automotive propulsion and driveline systemsAbility to interpret electrical, mechanical schematicsKnowledge of control components (sensors, motor control devices, etc.)Able to relay technical information in a way your audience understandsAbility to provide excellent customer serviceFocus on safety and qualityFlexibility to support service activity both off-site and outside of normal working hours.A passport and willingness to travel in and out of the USAbility to spend 80% of your time off-site; Majority of the off-site work is local and allows you to be home each day, however, an estimated 20% of the 80% off-site work can be in another state or another country- With an estimated 4-8 weeks being spent away from home (amount of travel is subject to change as we grow globally)Valid passportVector and NI training certification a plusProficient with all Microsoft Office applications and the ability to become proficient in any systems that we use (Concur, Kronos, etc.)Strong problem solving, strategic thinking and analytical skills requiredDemonstrated interpersonal skills and be able to communicate effectively with all stakeholdersExcellent written and verbal communication skills requiredStrong time management, multi-tasking, and organizational skillsStrong attention to detail requiredExceptional work ethic and positive attitude requiredFluency in the English language is requiredOrganize and maintain efficiency of personal work areaSelf-starter, who can multi-task and possess strong communication skillsAble to function as part of a team, with members of varying job levels, and work cooperatively toward team goalsConsistently exhibit appropriate attendance habits, working the hours necessary to perform the jobAccept instructions and tasks in a positive manner, treating all co-workers with dignity and respectConsistently adhere to, and support all UTAC policies, procedures, and safety regulationsPhysical Requirements :
