Traffic Control Drafter

Selectek has an immediate need for a Traffic Control Drafter for our telecommunications client in the Kansas City, KS area. The Traffic Control Plan Drafter (TCP) will be responsible for creating Traffic Control Plans and Maps in support of fiber network builds for city, county, and state highways.

This will require candidates be knowledgeable in city, county, state, and local municipality’s encroachment permits, traffic control, and specialty permits (e.g., UPRR, Caltrans, Forest Service, BLM), easements, right of way, and various environmental permits. The position will require that candidates have detailed understanding of easements and right of ways as well as basic knowledge of traffic engineering principles as it pertains to temporary traffic control. In this role, candidates will be asked to design various lane and road closures on city streets and freeways and have the ability to work with governing jurisdictional offices to locate Right of Way (ROW) lines if needed.

General Duties / Key Responsibilities:

• Utilize the latest version of AutoCAD to prepare Traffic Control Plans using all available research and adhering to jurisdiction requirements. (Plans will consist of both Typical and Custom)
• Provide exemplary project communication and adhere to project/jurisdiction requirements.
• Respond to customer inquiries regarding design, placement, and details of system.
• Establish a robust quality control/assurance process.
• Coordinate with drafting designers to design temporary traffic control setups.
• Draft all field-engineering notes to base map or survey map those that are pertinent to design.

Required:

• 2+ years of Traffic Control Plan Drafting experience for telecom or utility work.
• 2+ years of experience with AutoCAD (2007 version or higher)

Preferred:

• Experience utilizing RapidPlan
• Experience with ArcGIS or QGIS
• Ideally, they will have done the TCP (traffic control plans) work for telecom but if they have done it for other utilities, they will consider that as well. This could be mapping/wiring for any utility style work.

Job order details:
This role will prepare traffic control plans for fiber lines using AutoCAD to meet all the jurisdiction requirements. They will need to reach out to the jurisdiction the work will be done in to learn their specific requirements and then use AutoCAD to create the proper traffic control plans drawings to be released to the field.

Pay range: $23/hour - $30/hour ($47,000 - $63,000 annual salary)
Term of assignment: 6 months contract to direct
Pay method when direct: Hourly eligible for OT pay

Hours and shift: Monday – Friday, flexible start time for an 8-hour day
Work from home: Yes, employees will be expected to work within the office during the first 6 months or so while they are training and learning about the company. Once the employee is up and running at 6 months at the expected rate (meeting quotas), they will have the option to work from home or a mix of home and office. They do need to know that there will still be times or circumstances where they will be required to come into the office so they will need to still be in the Greater KC Area.
Working remote: No, they want them to be local and able to come into the office when needed.
Overtime expected: No
Travel: Local travel up to 25% at times
Work attire: Casual - jeans and T-shirts are fine as long as they are not offensive, stained, torn, etc
