Department Overview

Gas Operations oversees the natural gas transmission and distribution operations. The team maintains and operates 6,700 miles of gas transmission pipeline, 43,000 miles of distribution main, 3.6 million gas services, three PG&E-owned storage facilities with 102 BCF capacity, nine compressor stations with 175K HP, and 5,000 measurement and control facilities. Gas Operations is comprised of approximately 6,000 coworkers.

The Gas Operations Nondestructive Examination (GONDE) group is an internal resource for the execution and program management of all NDE services across the Gas Ops service territory. Our regionally based team specializes in NDE services, quality control, project management and oversight specific to the needs of PG&E's Gas pipeline and station infrastructure.

Position Summary

This position is represented by Engineers and Scientists of California (ESC) subject to collective bargaining.

The Senior NDE Engineering Technician shall have expert-level skills and knowledge to set up and calibrate equipment to conduct inspections and to interpret, evaluate, and document results in accordance with company procedures written with respect to applicable codes, specifications, and standards. The individual shall be thoroughly familiar with the scope and limitations of the test method and shall exercise assigned responsibility to effectively communicate inspection results to project engineering and / or management. This position is responsible for the safe and efficient execution of ND inspections within the PG&E service territory.

PG&E is providing the hourly rate range that the company in good faith believes it might pay for this position at the time of the job posting. This compensation range is specific to the locality of the job. The actual hourly rate paid to an individual will be based on multiple factors, including, but not limited to, specific skills, education, licenses or certifications, experience, market value, geographic location, collective bargaining agreement, and internal equity.

Under the terms of the collective bargaining agreement, the hourly rate range for this position is $63.03 to $70.35, subject to collectively bargained wage increases.

Job Responsibilities

• Performs complex laboratory and field assignments involving responsibility for planning and conducting a complete project of relatively limited scope or a portion of a large and more diverse project. May coordinate portions of overall assignments, direct, review, analyze, and integrate the technical work of others.
• Will be required to assist or perform laboratory and field tests, repairs, calibrations, and investigations of a difficult nature on a wide variety of materials and equipment and prepare reports thereon.
• May be required to perform tests in the field without direct supervision, including dielectric testing, and may provide project supervision over other coworkers.
• Performs the work of an Engineering Technician II and other related work duties as required.
