Job Purpose: The Director, Early Commercial Strategy (ECS) will provide commercial leadership for the United States market within Chiesi Group’s cross-functional development teams for assets in early, mid, and late-stage development. This position will be responsible for developing market and opportunity assessments based on key insights from primary and secondary research to create clear, actionable strategies for key products and indications of interest.
The Director, ECS will employ patient, provider and payer perspectives to create minimal and optimal target product profiles reflective of each asset’s value proposition. This role will lead the creation of revenue and unit forecasts for each assigned product. In addition, the role will be responsible to collect and analyze competitive intelligence on an on-going basis, utilizing various secondary sources to report to internal stakeholders and drive corporate knowledge around current and future trends in target markets.
In addition to pipeline assets, the Director, Early Commercial Strategy will have the opportunity to work on strategic projects aligned to long-term growth of the organization and in-line portfolio. Collaboration with other departments, including Value & Market Access, Marketing, Supply Chain, Medical, Regulatory, Quality, Sales, Business Development, Finance, and Decision Support will be required.
Summary of Key Responsibilities:
25% - Commercial Planning and Leadership:
- Serve as primary commercial lead for the U.S. market on global Chiesi cross-functional pipeline projects
- Provide commercial input to global Chiesi development teams related to factors that may materially impact future product revenues (eg, market trends, access, indications, endpoints, specialty targets, labeling, packaging configurations, post marketing commitments, etc.)
- Utilize insights and institutional expertise in assigned disease states to develop optimized target product profiles for assigned pipeline products
- Collaborate with development teams to build early-stage relationships with target KOLs and relevant patient advocacy groups
- Present plans and recommendations to development and leadership teams
- Collaborate with in-line Marketing on pre-launch activities for assigned late-stage pipeline products
25% - Opportunity Assessment and Forecasting:
- Develop market assessments, valuations and therapy area overviews including epidemiology, treatment paradigms and market access considerations
- Utilize primary and secondary market research sources to develop understanding, actionable insights and generate key assumptions required for modeling
- Create revenue forecasts and support long range planning process for assigned pipeline products
- Produce recommendations based on key qualitative findings and quantitative modeling
20% - Market Monitoring and Lifecycle Management
- Build and maintain competitive landscape assessments for assigned pipeline products and disease states
- Understand all relevant guidelines and associated impact on future revenues
- Continually assess market conditions and relevant competitive activity
- Prioritize events and proactively analyze potential impact on organizational pipeline
- Collaborate with internal stakeholders to proactively explore and identify potential lifecycle opportunities for late-stage pipeline, and in-line product portfolio
20% - Project Leadership and Reporting
- Communicate effectively within the organization to ensure the motivation and alignment of all key stakeholders to achieve project objectives
- Manage internal and external stakeholders to produce high-quality deliverables within timelines and allocated budget
- Set priorities in cases of conflicting requirements

Required Skills:
- Bachelor’s degree from a four-year accredited university; MBA or science-related graduate degree preferred
- Minimum 8 years’ experience in pharmaceutical new product planning, strategy, marketing, or consulting. Experience in developing and executing strategic plans for late-stage development pharmaceutical products/services preferred.
- Experience developing long-range forecasts and valuation assessments for pharmaceutical products
- Strong financial acumen, including experience working with P&L and NPV
- Diverse commercial experience with pharmaceuticals sold into the retail, buy-and-bill, specialty pharmacy and hospital settings preferred
- Strong interpersonal skills with ability to lead, interact with focus, and build consensus without authority
- Ability to successfully manage multiple tasks and multifunctional resources concurrently while maintaining high attention to detail while responding to rapidly changing priorities and aggressive deadlines
