Customer Service

This position is responsible for processing mail, Western Union orders, utility bills, cashing checks, selling money orders, collecting dry cleaning orders for customers. Additionally, always maintaining a positive company image by providing courteous, friendly, and efficient customer service to customers and team members.
Core competencies include partnerships, growth mindset, results oriented, customer focused, and professionalism. Reporting relations include accountability to the District Store Director, Store Manager, Assistant Managers of Store Operations, Perishables, and Health Wellness Home.
Primary duties and responsibilities include providing prompt, efficient, and friendly customer service, smiling and greeting customers in a friendly manner, assisting customers by escorting them to products, securing products, loading or unloading heavy items, making note of and passing along customer suggestions or requests, answering the telephone promptly, working with co-workers as a team, weighing postal packages, processing certified, express, UPS, registered, and insured mail, processing Western Union orders, selling money orders, cashing payroll, personal, ADC, and social security checks, selling hunting and fishing licenses, breaking down and putting money in utility drawers, signing on postal department, breaking down, and turning off postal register, processing paid outs, sending faxes for customers, counting the days' coupons, processing refunds for customers and department approved refunds, answering the telephone for the store using appropriate telephone techniques, utilizing the intercom system for paging, etc., and removing trash in a timely manner. Additionally, maintaining strict adherence to department and company guidelines related to personal hygiene and dress, adhering to company policies and individual store guidelines, and reporting to work when scheduled and on time are also required.
Secondary duties and responsibilities include signing on and off lottery machines, assisting customers with dry cleaning where applicable, assisting customers at the registers where necessary, selling and redeeming lottery tickets, processing bottle refunds, assisting in other areas of store as needed, and performing other job related duties and special projects as required.
Knowledge, skills, abilities, and worker characteristics include the ability to solve practical problems, interpret instructions, and perform arithmetic calculations involving fractions, decimals, and percentages. Education and experience include high school or equivalent experience and over six months up to one year of similar or related work experience.
Physical requirements include the ability to perform medium work, visual requirements, and the following physical activities : stooping, reaching, lifting, pushing, pulling, standing, walking, talking, and hearing. Working conditions include exposure to dirt and noise in a fast paced work environment with significant pressure. Equipment used includes a fax, telephone, equipment used in the postal area, lottery and money order machines, Western Union equipment, computer, and cash register, and intercom.
Contacts include daily contact with customers, weekly contact with suppliers / vendors, and monthly contact with federal / state governmental or regulatory agencies.
