Assistant Director, Facility Professional Services

As the Assistant Director for Facility Professional Services, you will provide vision, leadership, and strategic direction for a division with statewide responsibility for managing and supporting public works projects for state agencies and community and technical colleges. Reporting to the Chief Operations Officer, you will lead a team of over 100 staff in delivering expert services in capital construction, facility planning, energy conservation, contracting, and project management. In this role, you will oversee policy development, guide program managers, and collaborate with stakeholdersincluding agency leadership, the Legislature, contractors, and the publicto ensure the successful planning, design, construction, and renovation of facilities across Washington. You will also provide statewide leadership in public works best practices, ensuring that the division's expertise and resources align with the Department of Enterprise Services' mission and strategic goals.

Some of What You'll Enjoy Doing Includes :

• Lead delivery of a biennial capital program with 500+ projects valued at $825M+.
• Serve on the DES Leadership Team and represent the agency with public, private, and government stakeholders.
• Shape legislation, policies, and statewide standards for public facility planning, design, and construction.
• Advise the Governor's Office, Legislature, OFM, and client agencies on budget and capital program issues.
• Provide expert guidance on fee schedules, budget instructions, and statewide capital program priorities.
• Resolve conflicts, claims, and disputes using advanced management and project delivery expertise.
• Manage fiscal resources from appropriations, interagency agreements, and federal funding.
• Advance workforce and social goals, including support for minority- and women-owned businesses.
• Foster a customer-focused, inclusive, and diverse organizational culture.
• Anticipate and address emerging issues to strengthen statewide facility management policies.
• Lead development of FPS strategic and business plans aligned with DES mission and goals.
• Build and maintain collaborative partnerships with elected officials, agencies, businesses, and communities.
