Job Description
- Evaluate and quantify current design sensitivities (currently focused on two specific topics).
- Investigate concepts to minimize design sensitivities through design iterations, prototyping, small-scale trials, and full validation.
- Evaluate opportunities for next-generation structure design focused on robustness, cost savings, and innovation.
- Investigate and resolve non-conforming or rejected seating components through root-cause analysis and corrective actions.
- Provide timely feedback to DREs, product engineers, and plant leaders to drive design improvements and issue closure.
- Collaborate with Manufacturing, Quality, Supplier Development, and Program Management teams to ensure production and launch readiness.
- Review CAD models and drawings for feasibility, manufacturability, and tolerance stack-up.
- Support DV / PV testing (foam compression, durability, function, comfort) and analyze results for compliance.
- Participate in prototype builds, pre-production events, and launch activities; track and close issues using standard metrics.
- Prepare and maintain APQP / PPAP deliverables, including DFMEA, PFMEA, control plans, and process flow diagrams.
- Drive continuous improvement initiatives in seat assembly, foam / urethane molding, and overall product quality.
- Serve as the customer-facing technical contact for design reviews, warranty discussions, and validation updates.
- Analyze field returns and warranty claims to identify trends and implement permanent corrective actions.
Qualifications
Bachelor's degree in Mechanical, Automotive, Manufacturing, or Industrial Engineering (or equivalent experience)3 years in automotive seating, interior systems, product engineering (OEM or Tier-1)Knowledge of seat assembly, foam molding, trim, structure, and mechanismsExperience in launch and production support (prototypes and issue resolution)Proficient in CATIA V5 or NX; experience with PLM systems (Teamcenter, ENOVIA)Familiar with quality tools (8D, 5-Why, FMEA, Fishbone)Working knowledge of APQP, PPAP, FMEA, control plans, and process flowsAbility to interpret DV / PV test resultsComfortable working in both plant and office environmentsPreferred Qualifications
Experience with Tier-1 automotive suppliers in seating or interiors.Knowledge of seat comfort, ergonomics, and occupant safety.Exposure to warranty systems, field issue analysis, and launch support.Experience with Lean, Six Sigma, or other continuous improvement methods.Additional Information
