Graduate Internsare provided with valuable career development opportunities to work on a widevariety of planning projects, including working closely with professionalplanners, residents, developers, and community partners to support DCD Planningprojects and initiatives.
An internshipwith DCD provides interns with wide-ranging exposure to the operations of alarge city planning and development department and allows interns to contributeto helping shape the future of Milwaukee neighborhoods in partnership withcommunity stakeholders.

Purpose
TheGraduate Intern supports the Planning Division of the Department of CityDevelopment (DCD) by carrying out a variety of research, analysis, andcommunity engagement tasks related to land use, urban design, zoning, andneighborhood planning and engagement.
Graduate Interns work approximately 19 hours per week and cannot exceed1,019 hours per year.
Essential Functions
Urban Planning Research andAnalysis
- Carryout data analysis and / or geographic information system (GIS) mapping to supportdepartment planning projects.
- Conductresearch and analysis and prepare reports on topics including land use, zoningchanges and overlay zones, neighborhood and economic development, zoning codeupdates, and urban design to support zoning and development review.
- Assist Planning Staff with the review ofdevelopment proposals as they relate to zoning and design.
Administrative Support
- Prepare materials for City Plan Commission meetingsincluding PowerPoint presentations, staff reports, referral letters, and socialmedia posts.
- Assist Planning Staff at in-person publicmeetings and City Plan Commission meetings, including supporting neighborhoodengagement efforts and note-taking.
- Assist Planning Staff with the review ofBoard of Zoning Appeals cases.
- Support the Planning Division by assistingwith website updates, file management, and related tasks.

Conditions of Employment
Hybrid workarrangements may be available; however, eligible candidates must be able towork in-person from the office, including attending City Plan Commissionhearings and community meetings.
Minimum Requirements
1.Current enrollment in a Master’s or PhDprogram in urban planning, architecture, geography, urban studies, public administration,or a closely related field from an accredited college or university.
Enrollmentmust be maintained throughout employment as a Graduate Intern.
2.Eligible candidates must have at least twoacademic semesters remaining prior to anticipated graduation date.

Desirable Qualifications
Experience with GIS mappingapplications, Adobe Creative Suite, and / or SketchUp3D design software.

Current Salary
The current startinghourly rate (Pay Range 9PN) is $15.92, and the resident incentive startinghourly rate for City of Milwaukee residents is $16.40.
