Tall Guy and a Grill Catering , an award-winning Milwaukee area caterer, is seeking energetic and self-motivated Prep Cooks & Chefs with a passion for food and cooking.
These positions play a key role in achieving our mission to provide an extraordinary experience for our clients by preparing exceptional quality food.
These positions are responsible for precisely preparing menu items according to recipe book and presentation guidelines, ensuring high quality, consistently.
They are also responsible for completing tasks and activities to maintain an orderly and disciplined kitchen. These positions provides a great opportunity to learn and grow in your career, with the ability to take a lead kitchen role for smaller off-premises catering events after proper training.
These team members will report directly to the Executive Chef. This is a great opportunity to join a rapidly growing and successful Southeastern Wisconsin Food Service Company.

Position Details
Start Date : Immediate
Hours and Location : 40 hours per week, including nights and weekends, working on site in the kitchen and off-site catering events.
Starting Pay : $13 to $16 / hour, based on experience (will average $3,000 in tips over a 12 month span) Benefits package includes health care plan, dental & vision, life insurance, and short-term disability insurance.
2 weeks of paid vacation granted on an annual basis.
What You Will Do
- Follow kitchen procedures and processes to maintain order and discipline in the kitchen on a daily basis.
- Prepare menu items according to recipe book and presentation guidelines, with consistent high quality.
- Clean and sanitize kitchen and surrounding areas in accordance with health department standards. Follow the daily and weekly cleaning lists as produced by the Sous Chef.
- Ensure all food items in cooler and freezer are labeled and dated.
- Maintain quality control of all food items leaving the kitchen. This includes ensuring proper presentation and packing of all dish components for full-service, pick-up, and carry-out orders.
- Accurately report outages of product that needs re-ordering to Executive Chef
- Able to take lead kitchen role for smaller off-premises catering events after proper training.
- Comply with proper food safety practices.
- Assist with other duties as necessary or assigned to ensure company, team and event success.
Qualifications and Requirements
- Willing and able to work nights and weekends, as that is when most fully staffed events occur.
- Valid Drivers License.
- Reliable Transportation to and from work.
- Must have a High School Diploma or equivalent. Education, degree and / or certificate in food service or related field is a plus, but not required.
- Minimum of 2 years of experience working in a professional kitchen setting.
- Minimum of 1 year experience working catered events or in a banquet catering setting.
- Knowledge of common culinary terms, techniques and ingredients.
- Effective interpersonal, verbal communication, and listening skills.
- Able to maintain a positive and professional approach with co-workers, as well as clients and guests as necessary, even when under pressure.
- Demonstrated strong problem-solving skills.
- Self-driven, able to effectively work independently and as a team, and motivated to do a great job.
- Passionate about serving others and delivering an exceptional experience.
