Overview
Collins Consulting is seeking an experienced and detail-oriented Senior Tax Advisor to join their team. The Senior Tax Advisor supports tax-related functions for Collins Consulting, TS Banking Group, and affiliated business units. This role is responsible for preparing and reviewing tax returns for agricultural and business entities, coordinating with related owner / consumer returns, and providing proactive, complex tax planning strategies. The ideal candidate will bring a strong technical foundation in tax compliance, deep knowledge of ag-related tax issues, and the ability to deliver forward-looking planning that supports clients' financial and succession goals.
Preferred Experience :
- Direct experience with farm and agricultural clients , including planning around land sales, equipment purchases, and seasonal income cycles.
- Familiarity with multi-generational family business structures and succession planning.
Education :
CPA or EA designation required. Minimum of 5–7 years of tax preparation and planning experience. Master's Degree (M.A.) in Taxation or Juris Doctor (J.D.) with tax focus preferred.
Location : Council Bluffs / Hybrid
Pay is based on experience and earned professional designations.
Experience and Skills
Prepare and review tax returns for C Corporations, S Corporations, Partnerships, and Trusts, with a focus on agricultural and closely-held business entitiesComplete and integrate individual / consumer tax returns tied to entity ownership, ensuring seamless coordination between entity and owner-level tax positionsProvide strategic tax planning services including Entity selection and restructuring, multi-generational and succession planning, timing strategies for income, deductions, and capital purchases, and gifting, estate, and trust coordinationResearch and apply agriculture-specific tax laws, including Section 199A, depreciation, conservation expenses, cooperative patronage dividends, and other relevant provisionsServe as a trusted advisor to clients by explaining complex tax issues in a clear, actionable wayCollaborate with bankers and client relationship managers, wealth planning team and fiduciary officers, and attorneys on client planning and wealth management strategiesMaintain strong knowledge of current federal and multi-state tax regulations, with emphasis on Midwest state tax complianceProficiency with leading tax software platforms and strong Excel / financial modeling skillsAbility to integrate entity-level and individual tax returnsEnsure timely tax filings and payment remittances of payments to relevant authoritiesMentor and support junior staff as needed during peak filing periodsExpertise in complex tax planning strategies for closely-held businesses and family-owned enterprisesAbility to manage workload during tax season and deliver high-quality work under deadlinesHandle tax audits and other compliance-related matters, including communications and responses with tax authoritiesStrong communication and interpersonal skills; capable of building trusted client relationships.Extensive experience in tax preparation, research, and compliance for individuals and businessesStrong analytical skills with ability to interpret complex tax codes and apply them to practical scenariosPositive attitude and willingness to work in a team environment by ensuring prompt client responses to minimize duplication of client communications.Responsible to report any procedure or process that doesn't meet regulatory requirements including fraud, whether suspected or confirmed, to management.Operates in full compliance with internal policies and procedures, as well as applicable regulations and laws, including but not limited to Bank Secrecy Act / Anti-Money Laundering requirements.Ability to perform all other duties as assigned.Comply with all banking and company regulations, policies, and procedures.Ability to read and interpret documents such as safety rules, operating and maintenance instructions, and procedure manuals. Ability to write routine reports and correspondence. Ability to effectively present information and respond to questions from employees of company and the general public. Must possess good communication skills.Ability to operate standard office equipment and use word processing, spreadsheet, and database software.
