Health Program Manager
The Nebraska Department of Health and Human Services is seeking a Health Program Manager to join our Public Health Epidemiology team within the Division of Public Health. In this role, you will work alongside a dedicated and passionate team committed to our mission of Helping People Live Healthier Lives. The Program Manager position will manage a statewide lead poisoning prevention program and assist with the administration of public health programs focused on environmental public health and prevention.
The Health Program Manager will :
- Plan, organize, and direct activities for the statewide childhood lead poisoning prevention program and support other environmental health programs as needed.
- Create and manage program work plans, grant applications, budget justifications, and reports for submission to state and federal partners.
- Manage contracts, monitor budgets and grant expenses, and ensure work performed for the program is in compliance with state and federal rules and regulations.
- Coordinate communications and relationships with state and federal agencies, local health departments, health professionals, and community organizations for the prevention and control of lead poisoning and other diseases and exposures.
- Design and implement new primary and secondary prevention interventions, policies, procedures, and guidelines.
- Conduct health-related outreach, education, and training activities.
- Serve as a subject matter expertise for lead poisoning and provide technical assistance to partners.
- Create new evaluation and data collection initiatives to determine program needs, assess program performance, and plan for short-term and long-term programs and services.
Work Environment and Travel :
This position requires approximately 95% of work time spent in an office environment. The remainder is spent traveling or working in alternative sites such as attending conferences, meetings, and trainings. This position will spend approximately 3-7 days of overnight travel per year to attend regional and national conferences or meetings.
Requirements / Qualifications :
Minimum Qualifications : Coursework / training in public administration, health sciences and experience in an agency organization with responsibility for planning, implementation, budgeting, monitoring, evaluating, and marketing a program or service.
Masters' Degree in public health, public administration, health sciences, or other related field.At least one year of experience performing planning, implementation, monitoring and / or evaluation of a public health or related program.Successful experience working with grants, contracts, and budgets.Proven ability to build relationships with diverse internal and external stakeholders.Excellent verbal and written communication skills.Other : Must have a valid driver's license.
Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities :
Knowledge of federal and state regulations, agency policies, and business / management principles.Knowledge of public health programming, including grant writing, grant administration, and contract management.Knowledge of public health concepts, including structure, functions, policies, procedures, goals and mission of governmental public health.Ability to plan, direct, and coordinate program operations and activities to achieve goals and objectives.Ability to maintain liaison with community representatives and other governmental agencies.Strong communication skills to present information clearly to internal leadership, external stakeholders, and federal partners.Benefits
