Position Overview The Hawaii Alliance of Nonprofit Organizations (HANO) seeks a dynamic, entrepreneurial storyteller to lead membership growth, fund development support, and strategic communications. This role will architect HANO’s membership strategy as both a revenue engine and movement-building force while elevating HANO’s voice across the islands.
This is an opportunity to shape how nonprofits connect, collaborate, and amplify their collective impact through creative member engagement and compelling storytelling.
Key ResponsibilitiesMembership Strategy & Experience
Develop a comprehensive membership strategy that drives sustainable revenue and cultivates a movement across Hawaii’s nonprofit ecosystem.
Design and optimize the member journey from onboarding through long-term engagement, ensuring consistent value across touchpoints.
Create feedback systems and coach staff to capture member insights through interviews, surveys, and engagement metrics.
Oversee membership outreach and communications; evaluate and refresh the membership value proposition regularly.
Manage member benefit partnerships and identify opportunities to expand benefits and collaborations.
Coordinate with the Nonprofit Resources Team to integrate membership participation into programs and offerings.
Strategic Communications & Thought Leadership
Develop and execute a communications strategy that positions HANO as a trusted thought leader in the sector.
Oversee production and quality control of all external communications—press releases, op-eds, annual reports, newsletters, social media, and website content.
Maintain media relationships and grow HANO’s presence across channels to raise awareness of the sector’s impact.
Design efficient communications systems and workflows to support consistent content creation and distribution.
Development Support & Stewardship
Support the President & CEO in stewarding funder relationships and crafting compelling stewardship communications.
Contribute to grant writing, reporting, and sponsor engagement with strong narratives that demonstrate impact.
Research and identify new funding and sponsorship opportunities and oversee sponsor deliverables.
Explore innovative revenue streams, including potential campaign development.
Qualifications & Skills
5+ years of experience in communications, marketing, or fundraising strategy—nonprofit sector experience strongly preferred.
Proven experience with nonprofit fundraising models and donor stewardship practices.
Supervisory experience with a track record of coaching and developing staff.
Excellent storytelling, writing, editing, and content adaptation skills for diverse audiences and channels.
Experience managing website content, basic design oversight, and content publishing workflows.
Strong project management skills and comfort operating both strategically and tactically.
Experience with community engagement, event planning, and CRM / data management.
Ability to meet deadlines, manage multiple priorities, and work collaboratively in a hybrid environment.

Compensation Salary range :
