Supply Chain Rail Manager - Na Oils - Decatur, Il
Purpose of the Role
To optimize and coordinate the efficient movement of crude, refined, and by-product oil fleets across ADM's North American Oilseeds processing and export network. This role ensures timely and cost-effective transportation solutions that align with refinery capacity, sales strategy, and operational targets, contributing to enhanced fleet utilization and production throughput.
Key Responsibilities
Fleet Management & Logistics Execution
Manage day-to-day utilization of rail and truck fleets for crude, refined, and by-product oil movements
Monitor shipment status to ensure timely delivery, reduce dwell time, and maximize car cycle efficiency
Collaborate with production and terminal teams to prevent storage constraints and supply disruptions
Cross-functional Coordination
Serve as the operational link between Transportation, Crude Oils, Refined Oils Sales, and Export Terminals
Align internal stakeholders on equipment availability, inventory levels, production plans, and shipping schedules
Communicate needs and constraints proactively to support business continuity
Data & Systems Analysis
Maintain and refine the Crude Oil Supply Planning model (crush / refining rates, yield, downtime, storage, etc.)
Conduct freight spread and rate analyses to identify efficiency opportunities and optimize flow patterns
Leverage RMS and other logistics systems to inform planning and reporting
Market & Industry Awareness
Track global and domestic supply / demand, oil pricing trends, and market dynamics affecting logistics decisions
Use market insights to anticipate transportation requirements and advise internal partners accordingly
Continuous Improvement
Identify opportunities for cost savings, logistics optimization, and service enhancement
Periodically visit processing locations to assess operations and strengthen relationships with production teams
Skills & Experience Required
Practical / Technical Knowledge :
Bachelor's degree in Agriculture, Supply Chain, Business, or a related field.
5+ years of experience in logistics, commodities merchandising, or rail operations.
Planning & Organizing :
Able to coordinate complex schedules across multiple locations
Demonstrated ability to anticipate and resolve supply chain bottlenecks
Analytical Thinking
Skilled in data interpretation, modeling, rate comparison, and forecasting
Ability to assess trade-offs in fleet routing and scheduling.
Communication & Influence
Strong interpersonal and cross-functional collaboration skills.
Comfortable managing stakeholders at various levels.
Systems & Tools
Competent in railcar management systems (e.g., RMS), Excel (pivot tables, formulas), and planning tools.
Working Conditions
Fast-paced, dynamic environment requiring coordination across multiple sites and time zones
Occasional travel to ADM plant and terminal locations for site visits and relationship building
Hybrid schedule may be considered, with primary location based in Decatur, IL
