Maintenance Electrician

Summary : The Maintenance Electrician is the experienced / journey-level class in the series, fully competent to independently perform duties.

This class is distinguished from the lower classification of Maintenance Electrician by the relative independence with which duties are performed.

This hands-on position is responsible for ALL aspects of ensuring equipment readiness.

Ensures that ALL production, building, and related operating systems function to spec, constantly striving for zero downtime.

Performs routine preventative, predictive, and corrective maintenance on equipment and systems directly related to production and building operations.

Some of the disciplines related to this position are, but not limited to mechanical, electrical, and operating controls.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities Maintenance Electrician Include the following :

  • Participates in a variety of journey-level advanced skill duties involved in preventative and corrective maintenance duties involving inspection, diagnosis, troubleshooting, maintenance, repair and servicing of electric utility facilities, equipment, components, and machinery.
  • Maintains light power circuits, elevators, controls, electric motors of various sizes and types, lighting fixtures, transformers, communications systems, standby battery power circuits and equipment, making repairs as necessary.
  • Prepares and reviews work orders, material requisitions, reports and other written documentation for this operation.
  • Troubleshoots problems with machines and equipment by utilizing all means necessary.
  • Ensures timely and accurate completion of preventative maintenance activities, utilizing SAP; maintains detailed record keeping in support of SAP.
  • Assemble, install, test, and maintain electrical or electronic wiring, equipment, appliances, apparatus, and fixtures.
  • Diagnose malfunctioning systems, apparatus, and components, using test equipment and hand tools, to locate the cause of a breakdown and correct the problem.
  • Connect wires to circuit breakers, transformers, and other components.
  • Inspect electrical systems, equipment, and components to identify hazards, defects and the need for adjustment or repair, and to ensure compliance with codes.
  • Assists engineering and production teams as an information resource and or hands on via internal services request.
  • Advise management on whether continued operation of equipment could be hazardous.
  • Test electrical systems and continuity of circuits in electrical wiring, equipment, and fixtures, using testing devices to ensure compatibility and safety of the system.
  • Works to ensure the company’s safety program is followed.
  • Responsible for general building maintenance and upkeep
  • Performs related duties as assigned.

Qualifications Guidelines :

Knowledge of : Maintenance Electrician

  • Principles, methods, techniques, tools and equipment used in the installation, maintenance and repair of industrial / mechanical equipment and machinery common to manufacturing facility, machine shop procedures and practices;
  • safety practices, safe work methods and safety regulations pertaining to the trade; application of lockout / tag out procedures;
  • shop mathematics; hydraulics; basic electrical safety, confined space entry procedures, basic first aid; cost estimating and basic techniques of engineering and drafting as they apply to assigned responsibilities;
  • computer applications related to the work; codes, ordinances and regulations pertaining to the trade; mechanical maintenance;

high lift and forklift operation; and metals identification. Attended Non-programmer PLC Training.

Certificates, Licenses, Registrations

Trade certificates as applicable. 5 years of experience / Trade school certificate.

PLC, II, NICET, OSHA, HVAC, CFC, EO1, CPR

Education and / or Experience

Associate degrees in Technical, Industrial, Electrician, General Electrical Education, Associates Electrical Engineering.
