The GIS Specialist / Coordinator will be responsible for planning, developing, maintaining, and improving the District's GIS and related database systems. This position plays a critical role in supporting infrastructure management, utility mapping, project planning, and data-driven decision-making. You will oversee GIS operations, coordinate projects, train and support staff, and ensure the accuracy and integrity of geospatial data.
Responsibilities
- Plan, design, implement, and maintain GIS databases, layers, maps, dashboards, and applications.
- Utilize ESRI ArcGIS, ArcGIS Online, and related tools to support infrastructure mapping and analysis.
- Perform spatial data collection and verification, including field GPS work and as-built comparisons.
- Lead or coordinate GIS-related projects from planning to execution, ensuring timely and accurate delivery.
- Train staff on GIS tools, mobile data collection apps, and workflows.
- Provide data visualization and reporting support for engineering, planning, and operations teams.
- Develop workflows and dashboards that enhance efficiency and decision-making across departments.
- Research, compile, and digitize data from various sources including surveys, plats, and utility records.
- Support the integration of GIS with other systems and technologies to improve data accessibility and use.
- Engage with vendors, consultants, and stakeholders to maintain and improve GIS capabilities.
Qualifications
Bachelor's degree in Geography, GIS, Computer Science, Database Management, or a related field.At least 5 years of progressively responsible GIS experience (public utility or infrastructure setting preferred).Experience with project leadership, team coordination, or demonstrated leadership potential.Knowledge, Skills & Abilities
Proficiency with ESRI ArcGIS products (ArcMap, ArcGIS Pro, ArcGIS Online, etc.).Strong understanding of GIS principles, spatial data analysis, cartography, and database management.Experience with GPS data collection, field verification, and integrating GIS with asset management systems.Excellent communication skills with the ability to explain technical concepts clearly.Collaborative mindset and ability to work across departments.Desire and potential to grow into a leadership or supervisory role.Preferred
ESRI ArcGIS certification.Experience with utility mapping, water / sewer infrastructure, or municipal GIS applications.Seniority level
