Duties

Help

Directs and coordinates accounting operations which include cash processing and voucher examination.

Responsible for the monthly submission of cash reports and proof checks.

Responsible for the accuracy of all financial obligation to ensure compliance with established regulations.

Conducts cash verification, draft compliance reviews, physical inventories, government credit card reviews, and provide training to institution staff on a regular basis.

Directs the formulation of budget requests, reviews monthly salary projection, monitors the fund control systems of each program manager, and prepares monthly reports detailing the financial status of each program area.

Provides training to the Associate Warden and Program Managers on requirements of the Budget, Obligation, and Travel Modules. Prepares and distribute historical budgetary data related to the following areas : per capita, overtime expenditures, incentive award expenditures, turnover rates, solid waste usages, utility consumption, and outside medical expenses.

Along with all other correctional institution employees, incumbent is charged with responsibility for maintaining security of the institution. The staff correctional responsibilities precede all others required by this required for this position and is performed on a regular and recurring basis.

    Qualifications

    To be considered for the position, you must meet the following qualification requirements :

    Education :

    Ph.D. or equivalent doctoral degree or 3 full years of progressively higher level graduate education leading to such a degree or LL.M., if related.

    NOTE : Graduate education must demonstrate the knowledge, skills, and abilities necessary to do the work of the position.

    OR

    Experience :

    You must have at least one year of specialized experience equivalent in difficulty and complexity to the next lower grade level. To be creditable, this experience must have equipped the applicant with the qualifications to perform successfully the duties of the position, and must typically be in or related to the position to be filled.

    Some examples of this qualifying experience are :

  • Experience serving as a Disbursing / Certifying Officer.
  • Experience reviewing monthly submission of cash reports and proof checks and the accuracy of all financial obligations to ensure compliance with established regulations.
  • Experience with inventory procedures, records retention and evaluation and classification procedures for both real and personal property.
  • Experience working with Financial Management Information Systems (FMIS) the on-line computerized budgeting system, the SENTRY Real Property Management System (SRPMS), and the SENTRY Property Management System (SPMS).
  • OR

    Combination of Education and Experience :

    Have a combination of education and experience. This experience must have equipped you with the qualifications to perform the major duties of this position as described above.

    If applicable, credit will be given for paid and unpaid experience. To receive proper credit, you must show the actual time (such as number of hours worked per week) spent in the activities.

    In accordance with 5 U.S.C. 3307, a maximum entry age of 36 has been established for initial appointment to a position in a Bureau of Prisons institution.

    The representative rate for this position is $81,331 per annum ($38.97 per hour).

    Special Conditions of Employment Section :

    Initial appointment to a supervisory / managerial position requires a one-year probationary period.

    The incumbent is subject to geographic relocation to meet the needs of the agency.

    Appointment is subject to satisfactory completion of a urinalysis, physical, and background investigation. All applicants are subject to National Crime Information Center (NCIC) and credit checks.

    All applicants not currently working in an institution will be required to complete a qualification inquiry regarding convictions of misdemeanor crimes of domestic violence in order to be authorized to carry a firearm.

    The Core Value Assessment (CVA) is an in-person assessment that must be facilitated at a Bureau of Prisons Human Resource Servicing office. On the day of the scheduled interview, a CVA will be administered. The applicant assessment must be completed within a 70 minute time period and a passing score must be obtained. Further employment consideration will not be extended if the applicant fails to complete the examination or fails to achieve a passing score. Note : The Core Value Assessment will not be administered to current BOP employees.

    Successful completion of the "Introduction to Correctional Techniques," three-week training course at Glynco, Georgia is required.
