Summary
Apheresis is a specialty discipline involving the removal and return of blood from a donor. It is considered a high risk procedure.
Products collected or therapy performed must be safe for the donor and / or recipient. Specific parameters, guidelines and criterion must be met to insure appropriate personnel coverage is maintained.
The Apheresis Program at Moffitt Cancer Center is growing. The program supports the Bone Marrow Transplantation (BMT) program, Immuno-Cellular Therapies, and Clinical Trials.
Some functions performed in the clinic include Leukopheresis (MNC / HCP / P Collections), and Extracorporeal Phototherapy Procedures.
This unit contains 9 treatment spaces, where cell collection and photopheresis procedures are performed. We currently care for 10-20 daily outpatient patients (with occasional inpatient patients) between the hours of 7 : 00 a.
m. and 7 : 00 pm, Monday through Friday.
We are currently looking for an Assistant Patient Care Manager to join our Apheresis team.
Position Highlights :
The Assistant Patient Care Manager is responsible for the day-to-day supervision of nursing operations, ensuring quality care for patients and their families.
In addition, this role oversees clinical care performed by assigned nursing staff.
- Leadership responsibilities include mentoring, serving as a resource, and providing support for staff and faculty on clinical nursing issues while meeting the department, nursing, and organization goals.
- Establishes and oversees staffing to ensure the efficient, effective, and safe completion of therapeutic apheresis, Extracorporeal Photopheresis, and Mononuclear cell collection procedures while meeting hospital needs and physician requests.
- Hires new staff and ensures that new staff meets all requirements of the training plan. Monitoring, and mentoring staff to ensure competency and completeness of work.
- Maintain knowledge of therapeutic apheresis procedures and may perform therapeutic apheresis procedures when needed ensuring safe and appropriate care of patient.
Maintains knowledge of Extracorporeal Photopheresis as well as mononuclear cell collections.
- maintains compliance with all FACT standards as well as adhering to all collection manuals provided by the medical director or clinical trial sponsors.
- Works in a multidisciplinary team to collaborate with Program Quality team, Hospital Medical research involving apheresis as well as contribute to the leadership team you are assigned.
Collaborates and contributes to the research being conducted at the institute especially those requiring cell collections.
This position will report to our Apheresis department at Moffitt Cancer Center (Moffitt Clinic Building) , located at USF Magnolia Drive, Tampa FL 33612.
The Ideal Candidate
The ideal candidate will have the following :
- Apheresis experience as a registered nurse
- OCN certification
- Leadership experience
- Master's Degree in Nursing from an institution accredited by the ACEN or CCNE
Responsibilities :
- Efficiently coordinates the management of patient care, including patient admissions, assigning patients to care areas and approves the transfer of patients while maintaining sensitivity for age appropriate and multi-cultural needs and / or issues of patients, families, visitors and staff and multidisciplinary collaboration.
- Assists in clinical decision-making by maintaining awareness of new diagnostic and treatment procedures and protocols as well as appropriate resources to obtain current, accurate information.
- As a leader, participates in the development, coaching, education, and mentoring of nursing and patient care staff and leads or participates in special projects.
- Promotes and monitors the orientation, growth, and development of personnel by mentoring RN staff to develop skills to manage patient care systematically and assisting the Education Department by teaching appropriate in-services / classes for staff.
- Attends and participates in scheduled Nursing Administration and Administrative Coordinator meetings and participates on a Nursing Division or hospital-wide committee.
- Interviews and makes recommendations regarding the hiring of staff.
Credentials and Qualifications :
- Graduate of an accredited nursing program. B.S.N. OR an Associate’s Degree with B.S.N. in process to be completed within two (2) years of initial enrollment date.
- FL RN License
- BLS Certification
- Certification in area of specialty, required.
- 3 years of experience as a registered nurse in an acute care or ambulatory setting.
