As a State and Local Tax Senior Manager, you will oversee and review financial information for clients, including business and individual tax returns. You will have exposure to a diverse client base across various industries, manage client relationships, and act as liaison between internal staff and leaders to ensure high‑quality work.
Job Description
Tax Strategy and Engagement Oversight
- Develop and implement comprehensive tax planning strategies that align with client objectives and minimize tax liabilities.
- Analyze complex tax scenarios—including mergers, acquisitions, and other strategic transactions—to provide optimal solutions.
- Manage a portfolio of tax engagements, supervise staff, and review their work for accuracy, compliance, and quality.
- Monitor engagement progress, budgets, and timelines, making adjustments as needed to meet client expectations.
Research and Analysis
Stay abreast of evolving tax laws and industry developments, applying knowledge to client engagements and internal training.Lead tax research efforts to address client inquiries, resolve complex tax issues, and guide decision‑making.Client Communication
Effectively communicate complex tax concepts and strategies to clients, tailoring explanations to their level of understanding.Prepare and deliver presentations on tax matters, providing insights into financial situations and potential implications.Maintain strong relationships with clients, acting as a trusted advisor on tax matters.Compliance and Documentation
Review and oversee the preparation of tax returns to ensure accuracy and compliance with regulations.Monitor and manage tax filing deadlines, extensions, and other requirements to avoid penalties.Stay current with federal, state, and local tax laws, ensuring compliance for the firm and its clients.Team Collaboration
Collaborate with other tax professionals to share insights, knowledge, and best practices.Supervise and mentor staff, providing guidance, training, and feedback to foster professional growth.Promote a collaborative team environment and effective communication among members.Participate in internal training to enhance technical skills and stay updated on industry trends.Process Improvement and Innovation
Identify opportunities to enhance tax workflows, processes, and methodologies.Ensure compliance with internal quality control procedures, including reviewing and approving filings and deliverables.Strategic Business Development
Collaborate with partners and senior management to identify business development opportunities and cultivate client leads.Participate in proposal development and presentations to prospective clients.Supervisory Responsibilities
Supervise subordinate team members.Work Environment

Travel may be frequent and unpredictable, depending on client needs.Required Education and Experience
Bachelor’s degree in accounting, finance, or related field.8+ years of relevant experience.CPA or Enrolled Agent license.Experience in a professional service environment such as a CPA firm or financial consulting firm.Additional industry or specialization certifications may be required.Responsible for completing the minimum CPE credit requirement.Software proficiency : Checkpoint for Tax Research, Power BI, Alteryx, and MS Office Suite.Preferred Education and Experience
Juris Doctor (JD) degree for specialty positions.Other Duties
