Job description

Facilities Maintenance Worker

Qualifications :

1. High School Diploma or GED

2. Valid Alabama driver's license

3. Must meet the suitability criteria for employment and / or certification / licensure under the Alabama Child Protection Act of 1999 and Act No. 2002-457.

Required Knowledge, Skills and Abilities :

1. Good knowledge of tools, materials and methods to safely perform the work required.

2. Ability to perform grounds keeping and maintenance.

3. Ability to follow written and oral instructions.

4. Ability to maintain good interpersonal relationships.

5. Ability to work outside in a variety of conditions and temperatures.

6. Ability to observe and report needs for maintenance and supplies.

7. Ability to relate with students, teachers and general public.

8. Ability to climb and work from ladders or scaffolds.

9. Ability to move furniture, supplies, equipment and materials up to fifty (50) pounds.

10. Physical dexterity, mobility, and strength to stoop, climb, lift heavy weights, reach parts and supplies, and perform the essential functions of this position.

11. Knowledge of and reporting of Title IX statute and its programs and activities to the system-wide Athletic Director.

Essential Functions :

1. Establishes priorities on repairs and general building maintenance, both inside and outside the school building and athletic complex.

2. Examines the athletic complex and grounds on a regular basis for repairs and general maintenance needs as scheduled and needed.

3. Completes grounds keeping duties which will include, but not limited to, cutting of athletic fields and landscape, turf management, quality control, and irrigation up-keep.

4. Maintains the athletic complex and ensures the grounds, restrooms, and facilities are cleaned, sanitary, and well-maintained.

5. Completes requests through scheduling for general repairs or projects.

6. Reports and assists with items in disrepair, up to and including, signage.

7. Requests assistance for general repairs or projects beyond the capabilities of the school.

8. Replaces light bulbs and cleans light covers as needed.

9. Works with system Athletic Coordinator to ensure quality control.

10. Orders materials and supplies as needed for repairs, general maintenance, and custodial needs for the athletic complex.

11. Complies with appropriate laws and procedures for the storage and disposal of trash, rubbish and waste, and maintains acceptable health and safety standards regarding the use of cleaning chemicals, disinfectants, etc. as directed.

12. Assists with school custodial duties as directed by supervisors.

13. Reports to work on time and regularly as designated by work schedule.

14. Communicates and collaborates with Facilities Department and District Athletic Coordinator.

15. Communicates effectively both orally and in writing.

16. Establishes and maintains cooperative and effective working relationships with others.

17. Assumes other reasonable and equitable duties as assigned by the immediate supervisor(s).

Terms of Employment :

The terms of employment shall be in accordance with provisions of the Board's Policy Manual, Students First Act or Fair Dismissal Act of Alabama and the Board's Salary Schedule-Maintenance, Athletic Maintenance.

Evaluation :

Performance evaluation shall be in accordance with provisions of the Board's policy on Evaluation of Classified Personnel.
