Superintendent of Streets
The Superintendent of Streets plans, organizes, and administers the activities of the Streets Division of the Department of Public Works. The division is responsible for cleaning, construction, repair, maintenance, and inspection of city streets, waterways, bridges, storm sewers, and alleys, and all public grounds, including mowing, street trees and landscaping within public spaces (not including Park Property). This position will lead five different areas within the Street's division and will lead roughly 120 employees.
The Street Operations division is a maintenance and project-driven operation. Street Operations mixes in-house work with contracted work to perform core functions, such as filling potholes, rehabilitating roadway surfaces, maintaining flow in stormwater channels, repairing trip hazards in sidewalks, patching utility cuts, upkeep of Hazelwood Cemetery, maintenance of public grounds, and completing various other projects. During the winter and severe weather events, the division will stop project activities and road maintenance to address emergency work such as snow removal, flooding, and other storm related events.
