Position Summary & Description
The Office of International Education in the Division of Academic Affairs at Indiana University of Pennsylvania (IUP) invites applications for American Language Institute Instructors.
The ALI intensive English program supports students in developing English language skills and a deeper understanding of
- The position reports to the Executive Director of the American Language Institute.
- ALI instructors are responsible for designing course syllabi, selecting texts and material for classes, planning lessons, keeping attendance records, assessing students’ progress, and maintaining a positive learning environment.
- Instructors accommodate students’ learning needs and help them prepare for a successful transition to higher education in the United States.
- Noninstructional responsibilities include assisting with new student orientation, administering program assessments, participating in staff meetings, engaging in professional development, and submitting required records including grade and attendance reports and syllabi.
- The instructor will be required to perform the tasks as required / requested in support of the American Language Institute and the university.
Position Qualifications
Required :
- Relevant teaching experience and master’s degree in TESOL, applied linguistics, or closely related field.
- Experience successfully working with individuals from diverse backgrounds.
- Proficiency with instructional technology.
- Excellent written and oral communication skills.

Essential Functions
The work of this position occurs in a typical office environment. Although infrequent, periods of heavy exertion may occur.
Incumbent must have the following abilities :
- Ability to travel to meeting / training sites.
- Communicate both orally and in writing to issue, receive and carry out instructions and orders effectively and to convey information to a variety of co-workers and the general public.
- Use a variety of common office machines such as telephones, calculators, copiers, computer terminals, keyboards, video display terminals, auxiliary printers, and similar equipment.
- Operate office equipment which may require stooping, kneeling, bending, stretching and prolonged standing.
- Provide assistance and guidance to internal and external customers.
- Follow oral and written instructions.
