Position Summary

Reporting to Senior Manager of Quality and Food Safety, the Associate Food Scientist will be responsible for undertaking bench scale product and process development by assisting the Sr.

Food Scientists in Capsicum and Blend development. This position will assist in undertaking scale up trials for new products in the Las Cruces plant.

The Associate Food Scientist will also be responsible for developing working specifications and providing basic technical documentation on Research and Development (R&D) products to the customers.

The ideal candidate for this position will have strong attention to detail in order to accurately prepare specifications, label declarations and formulations without technical errors.

They should work well with multiple competing demands and priorities. Ability to review samples and identify issues and opportunities while also resolving said issues will be required for success in this position

Position Responsibilities

  • Develop products and applications using ingredients in the laboratory bench scale.
  • Assist the Olam Spices team in planning and undertaking scale up trials for product formulations, processing runs in the pilot plants, Operating plants and third-party operations.
  • Communicates with customers, internal sales team, and members of product line management to align product and process specifications meeting customer requirements and best options for the business.
  • Provide samples to customers with required technical documentation and follow up on prototyping results with customers.
  • Write operating specifications for the plants based on the product specifications for production runs and maintain the same in the operating specifications.
  • Undertake physical, chemical, and microbiological testing of products which are critical for product quality.
  • Communicate with the plant operations team and coordinates sample and trial runs at the plant floor.
  • Communicate and coordinates sample requests and preparation of samples.
  • Coordinate with the manufacturing plants to understand the production process in order to trouble shoot based on the understanding of customer requirements.
  • Perform additional duties as assigned.
  • Perform other duties as assigned.

Position Requirements

  • Bachelor’s degree in Food Science & Technology or related field is required..
  • Ability and willingness to travel as needed (10%) to plants, suppliers, third party processors is required. (Post COVID restrictions).
  • Ability and willingness to adhere to all personnel safety and plant regulations when performing work activities in the plant is required.
  • Strong attention to detail in order to accurately prepare specifications, label declarations and formulations without technical errors is required.
  • Strong interpersonal, verbal, and written communication skills are required.
  • Proven ability to work analytically in a problem-solving environment is required.
  • Knowledge of basic food instrumentation in quality measurement is required.
  • Ability to build relationships and work well in a team-oriented environment with internal and external customers is required.
