Dental Hygienist
The Dental Hygienist position provides dental hygiene care that not only provides proficiency in the technical aspects of dental care but also provides a thoughtful approach to educating patients about the importance of a healthy smile.
This position puts patients at ease while practicing and performing excellent hygiene techniques including assessing oral health conditions, applying sealants and fluorides, utilizing appropriate cleaning techniques, creating accurate impressions, taking and recording dental digital radiographs and providing exceptional patient education.
The Dental Hygienist also actively strives to ensure patients schedule appropriate follow up appointments.
ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS
Provide superior patient care and customer service by making the patient the #1 priority
Exhibit outstanding customer service and hospitality as well as a comforting chair side manner

Stay on schedule as much as possible with the goal of creating "no patient wait times" while helping manage overall office patient flow
Maintain time flexibility for all patients; be present, engaged, ready to work at all assigned shift times.
Educate patients on oral hygiene / health / disease as well as procedures and services offered while establishing a continued care relationship
Screen and assess oral health conditions for all new patients and recall patients
Verify patient health history (review basic health status, medications and understand the impact with dentistry) and document appropriately in patient's chart
Thoroughly and efficiently perform clinical hygiene functions including but not limited to exposing / evaluating diagnostic radiographs, taking and recording blood pressure, adult / child prophylaxis, non-surgical periodontal therapy and co-assessing possible restorative treatments with the doctor.
Complete periodontal charting per guidelines
Accurately enter hygiene and doctor treatment plans
Present hygiene treatment plans to the patient
Use all patient education materials (ex. iPad) on a consistent basis to ensure case acceptance
Teach patients appropriate oral hygiene strategies to maintain optimal oral health (ex. toothbrushing, flossing, nutritional counseling)
Complete NEA's for hygiene procedures daily for services performed
Place locally applied antimicrobials when prescribed by the doctor
Place sealants / perform coronal polishing
Use intraoral camera
Screen for oral cancer
Offer fluoride treatment to all patients
Non-surgical periodontal therapy (scaling / root planing)
Take alginate impressions and fabricate whitening trays if necessary
Maintain accurate and timely notes in patient's chart
Clean and prepare operatory per OSHA guidelines prior to patient appointment
Create and send thank you notes to all new patients
Order and maintain all hygiene supplies and deliverable products for the office
Assist other team members, including front office responsibilities and general office duties
QUALIFICATIONS
Dental Hygiene certification from accredited dental hygiene school
Current hygiene license issued by state where employed (renewed annually)
Maintain annual OSHA, HIPAA, and Infection Control training as required by law
