Description of Work :
The University of Nebraska College of Law is hiring for a faculty appointment at the rank of lecturer to begin in the Fall 2024 semester.
This opening is for a recurring class held during the fall semesters.
Teaching duties include the following :
- Attend and assist with weekly classroom instruction, providing demonstrations and insight as required.
- Conduct weekly student performance sessions (ensuring each assigned student performs the skill being taught during each session) and provide effective oral critiques of those performances.
- Evaluate student performances in class (including final trial exercises) and provide written input to the resident faculty member in charge of the course for purposes of assisting the resident faculty member in assigning course grades.
- Evaluate student written assignments and provide written input to the resident faculty member in charge of the course for purposes of assisting the resident faculty member in assigning course grades.
- Conduct one in-person video review session with each assigned student per semester.
- Assist director with course materials selection (including final trial exercise problems), preparing syllabus and writing assignments.
- Meet periodically before and during the semester with the resident faculty member and other lecturers to discuss course developments and coordinate approaches among the class sections.
- Attend train the trainer seminar(s) designed to provide instruction for teaching trial advocacy.
- Other duties as assigned by the resident faculty member.
Approximate allocation of responsibilities :
- Preparing for and participating in lectures, preparing for and conducting weekly student performance sessions, and providing oral critiques of those performances 60%.
- Reviewing students’ written assignments and video recordings of performances and providing detailed written and oral critiques 30%.
- Meeting with the resident faculty member and other lecturers to coordinate approaches to teaching class sections; other duties as assigned 10%.

Minimum Required Qualifications :
- J.D. from an ABA-accredited law school or its foreign equivalent.
- Minimum of five years of post-J.D. expertise in courtroom litigation, as demonstrated in the resume.
- Minimum of five cases tried to a jury as an attorney or presided over as a judge.
Preferred Qualifications :
- Prior trial advocacy teaching experience at the law school level or for other organizations involved in providing training for attorneys and / or law students, including, but not limited to, the National Institute for Trial Advocacy (NITA), National College of District Attorneys (NCDA), or equivalent.
- Prior participation in trial advocacy teacher training courses provided by organizations involved in providing training for attorneys, including, but not limited to, the NITA, NCDA, Stetson University College of Law (Stetson), or equivalent.
- Prior participation in trial advocacy courses provided by organizations involved in providing training for attorneys, including, but not limited to, the NITA, NCDA, Stetson, American Inns of Court (AIC), American Board of Trial Advocates (ABOTA), the Trial Lawyers College, Gideon’s Promise, or equivalent.
- Prior participation in a mock trial team at the law school level.
- Familiarity with Nebraska state court jury trial procedure.
