Position Summary
Washburn University’s Department of Education invites applications for an Assistant Professor in Education to begin August 4.
This is a full-time, 9-month, tenure track position.
Washburn University offers undergraduate programs leading to licensure in elementary, middle, secondary, and PreK- areas as well as graduate degrees in Curriculum and Instruction, Special Education, and Educational Leadership.
The Department of Education houses the elementary and special education programs and supports programs in the secondary and PreK- programs.
Faculty in the Department of Education have the opportunity to work with students in all disciplines through various core education courses and field experiences.
The Education Department works closely with several partner school districts in the Topeka area. The selected candidate will join a team of dedicated faculty members and community partners.

Essential Functions :
- Teach credit hours per semester or a full workload as defined by the faculty handbook.
- Teach and develop Department of Education courses in assigned modalities (e.g., online, hybrid, face-to-face, Zoom, etc.).
- Advise students, maintain office hours in accordance with SAS and university policy, attend meetings, and engage in service activities in the Department, the School of Applied Studies, the University, the profession, and the community
- Fulfill expectations associated with a tenure-track appointment for teaching, service, and scholarship
Required Qualifications :
- Earned doctorate in Education, Curriculum and Instruction, or related field. ABD will be considered with completion of the doctorate by May 5.
- An expertise in the area of science of reading with the ability to teach literacy courses, including topics such structured literacy, dyslexia, and / or teaching students with exceptionalities.
- Demonstrated commitment to developing inclusive teaching practices that engage students from diverse backgrounds.
- Experience working with students in PreK- settings. Preference will be given to applicants with experience at the middle or secondary grades 6-.

Preferred Qualifications :
- Experience teaching in post-secondary settings.
- Evidence of successful use of collaborative curriculum development and delivery.
- Experience working with school-university partnerships such as PDS partnerships.
- Evidence of scholarly work related to the field of science of reading / literacy.
