Job Description
We are seeking an experienced Employee Relations Consultant to provide expert guidance and support across our US and Canadian operations. This role will serve as a partner to management and HR teams, ensuring compliant and effective resolution of employee relations matters while fostering positive workplace culture and minimizing legal risks.
Key Responsibilities
Employee Relations Management
- Provide coaching and guidance to managers on progressive discipline, performance management, and difficult conversations
- Develop and recommend appropriate corrective actions and resolution strategies
- Conduct thorough investigations into employee complaints and workplace conflicts
- Document all employee relations activities and maintain confidential case files
Compliance & Risk Management
Ensure all employee relations practices comply with federal, state / provincial, and local employment laws in both US and CanadaStay current on employment law changes and communicate impacts to stakeholdersPartner with legal counsel on complex matters and potential litigation risksConduct workplace assessments and recommend policy improvementsSupport employment practices liability insurance claims and legal proceedingsAdvisory & Training Support
Serve as subject matter expert and consultant to HR business partners, managers, and leadership teamsDevelop and deliver training programs on employee relations topics, including anti-harassment, respectful workplace conduct, and investigation proceduresCreate and update employee relations policies, procedures, and guidelinesData Analysis & Reporting
Track and analyze employee relations metrics and trends across both countriesPrepare regular reports for senior leadership on case volumes, resolution outcomes, and risk areasIdentify systemic issues and recommend proactive solutionsMaintain accurate records for audit and compliance purposesQualifications
Minimum 5-7+ years of progressive employee relations experienceExperience working with both US and Canadian employment law requirementsPHR, SHRM-CP, SHRM-SCP, or similar HR certification preferredTechnical Skills
Deep knowledge of US federal employment laws and Canadian employment standardsUnderstanding of provincial employment laws across key Canadian marketsStrong investigation and case management skillsProficiency with HRIS systems and case management toolsAdvanced knowledge of Microsoft Office SuiteCore Competencies
Excellent verbal and written communication skills with ability to present to all organizational levelsStrong analytical and problem-solving abilitiesHigh degree of emotional intelligence and conflict resolution skillsProven ability to handle sensitive and confidential information with discretionCultural sensitivity and ability to work effectively across diverse populationsProject management skills with ability to handle multiple complex cases simultaneouslyPreferred Qualifications
