Position Overview
The Sr. Systems Engineer (Cloud) is responsible for architecting, implementing, and supporting robust cloud solutions for Verra Mobility, with a primary focus on Microsoft Azure. This role, based in NY or AZ, collaborates closely with Architecture, Engineering, and IT Operations teams, supporting staff across Phoenix, AZ, and the US East Coast. The position demands advanced expertise in deploying, securing, and monitoring cloud services, and requires a proactive approach to optimizing infrastructure and ensuring operational excellence.
Key Responsibilities
- Cloud Deployment & Architecture : Design and implement private, public, and hybrid cloud solutions, primarily leveraging Azure services such as Azure Compute, Storage, Networking, and Virtual Machines. Architect scalable, secure, and resilient cloud environments tailored to business requirements.
- Monitoring & Performance : Establish and maintain comprehensive monitoring frameworks for system availability, performance, and cost optimization using Azure Monitor, Log Analytics, and resource tagging strategies.
- High Availability & Disaster Recovery : Develop, implement, and test high availability and disaster recovery strategies using Azure Site Recovery, Azure Backup, and Zerto for VPG migration and setup.
- Automation & DevOps : Create and maintain automation scripts and frameworks using PowerShell, Azure CLI, ARM / Bicep templates, and Azure DevOps pipelines. Drive infrastructure as code (IaC) adoption and CI / CD best practices.
- Identity & Access Management : Manage IAM users, groups, and roles using Azure Active Directory (EntraID), implementing secure authentication, MFA, and conditional access policies.
- Security & Compliance : Architect and deliver secure cloud solutions, ensuring compliance with SOX, SOC2, ISO, PCI-DSS, and HIPAA standards. Implement Azure Security Center, Defender for Cloud, and advanced NSG, DLP, and automated compliance monitoring.
- T echnical Support & Incident Management : Provide expert technical support to internal and external stakeholders, lead incident management, and coordinate with support teams and vendors for rapid resolution.
- Capacity Planning & Reporting : Develop capacity planning methodologies and operational reports using Azure Cost Management and custom dashboards.
- Infrastructure Assessment : Conduct architecture design, system evaluation, and infrastructure assessments to ensure optimal performance and scalability.
- Resource Optimization : Use resource tagging and cost allocation strategies to optimize cloud resource utilization and spending.
- Global Support : Participate in global support, including after-hours and on-call duties, and contribute to a follow-the-sun support model.
Additional Azure Cloud Skills & Knowledge
Understanding of Azure Networking : Experience in configuring Azure Virtual Networks, NSGs, VPN Gateways, ExpressRoute, and private endpoints.Azure Storage Solutions : Proficiency with Azure Storage Accounts, Blob / File / Table storage, and integration with Qumulo and NetApp.Azure Governance & Policy : Implement Azure Policy, Blueprints, and role-based access control (RBAC) for governance and compliance.Azure Automation & Serverless : Experience with Azure Automation, Logic Apps, Functions, and Event Grid for workflow orchestration and serverless computing.Azure DevOps & CI / CD : Build and manage CI / CD pipelines using Azure DevOps, integrating automated testing, deployment, and monitoring.Data & Analytics : Familiarity with Azure SQL, Cosmos DB, Data Factory, and Synapse Analytics for data management and analytics solutions.Security Technologies : Implement Azure Key Vault, Sentinel, and Defender for Cloud to secure secrets, monitor threats, and automate incident response.Virtualization & VMware : Advanced proficiency in VMware vSphere, NSX, vROPs, and template management for hybrid cloud integration.Requirements
Minimum 6 years of experience in cloud, SAN, and networking environments.At least 5 years working with Azure and related cloud technologies (Qumulo, NetApp).Relevant Azure certifications (e.g., AZ-104, AZ-305, Azure Architect Expert).Bachelor’s degree in computer science or equivalent experience.Advanced proficiency in Windows Server and VMware data center stack (vSphere, NSX, vROPs, storage).Experience in data center installation, operations, and multi-site architecture.Strong scripting skills (PowerShell, Bash, Python, ARM / Bicep, Terraform).Experience supporting multi-tiered escalation and on-call procedures.Hands-on support for software engineering and QA deployment issues across infrastructure environments.Verra Mobility is an Equal Opportunity Employer.
