Job description

Summary

The department of Neurology at Baylor College of Medicine seeks a visionary, collaborative and clinically accomplished leader to serve as the inaugural Director of its newly established Center of Excellence for Dysautonomia. This is a rare opportunity to shape and lead a transformative program at one of the nation's premier academic medical institutions, located in the heart of the Texas Medical Center-the largest medical complex in the world.

Reporting to the Chair of the Department of Neurology, the Director will serve as the strategic and clinical leader of the Center, driving innovation in patient care, research and education. The Center is designed to integrate multidisciplinary clinical services, translational research and training programs to advance the understanding and treatment of autonomic disorders. With strong institutional and philanthropic support, the Director will have the resources to build a nationally recognized program that prioritizes coordinated care, cutting-edge diagnostics and access to advanced therapies and clinical trials.

The successful candidate will be a board-certified physician with recognized expertise in dysautonomia and will have a minimum of five years of post-residency experience. They will bring a proven track record in clinical program development, interdisciplinary collaboration and autonomic testing. The Director will hold a faculty appointment in the Department of Neurology, commensurate with academic rank and experience, and will be expected to contribute to Baylor’s academic mission through research, teaching and mentorship.

Key Responsibilities

• Strategic Leadership: Define and execute a comprehensive vision for the Center, aligning clinical, research, and educational priorities with Baylor’s institutional mission.
• Program Development: Build and lead a multidisciplinary team spanning neurology, cardiology, internal medicine, psychiatry, rehabilitation, and allied health disciplines.
• Clinical Excellence: Oversee the development of an autonomic testing laboratory with advanced diagnostic capabilities and ensure delivery of high-quality, evidence-based care.
• Research Advancement: Lead and support clinical and translational research initiatives, including protocol design, grant development, and scholarly dissemination.
• Educational Innovation: Design and implement training programs across undergraduate, graduate, and continuing medical education, with a strategic vision for a future fellowship in dysautonomia.
• Institutional Collaboration: Establish referral networks and partnerships across Baylor Medicine, affiliate hospitals, and national institutions to expand access and elevate the Center’s reputation.
• Advocacy and Outreach: Serve as a clinical liaison and advocate for patients, families, and referring providers, promoting coordinated and compassionate care.
• National Visibility: Represent the Center at national and international conferences, contributing to the broader academic dialogue on dysautonomia and autonomic neuroscience.
• Operational Stewardship: Collaborate with institutional leadership on strategic planning, resource allocation, and financial sustainability.

Minimum Qualifications

Education and Certification
• M.D. or D.O. with board certification in neurology, cardiology, internal medicine or a closely related specialty.
• Minimum of five years post-residency experience with demonstrated expertise in autonomic disorders.
• Proven experience in autonomic testing and management of complex dysautonomia cases.
• Eligibility for medical licensure in the state of Texas.

Professional Experience and Leadership
• Demonstrated success in clinical program development and interdisciplinary collaboration.
• Experience leading or expanding clinical services within an academic medical center or comparable healthcare setting.
• Proven ability to recruit, mentor and inspire diverse teams of clinicians, researchers and trainees.
• Track record of contributing to scholarly publications and presenting at national or international conferences.
