Job Purpose
The Director of Plant Operations is responsible for planning, organizing, and directing all aspects of the hospital’s physical plant, maintenance, safety, and facility management programs. This includes oversight of building systems (mechanical, electrical, plumbing), grounds, utilities, environmental safety, and compliance with regulatory standards to ensure a safe, efficient, and comfortable environment for patients, staff, and visitors.
Essential Functions
Facility Management & Maintenance
o Oversee maintenance of hospital buildings, grounds, and equipment.
o Ensure proper functioning of HVAC, plumbing, electrical, and life safety systems.
o Develop and implement preventive maintenance programs.
o Manage renovations, construction projects, and capital improvements.
Safety & Compliance
o Maintain compliance with OSHA , Center of Improvement in Healthcare Quality (CIHQ) , NFPA , and other regulatory standards.
o Serve as Safety Officer; lead Environment of Care and Safety Committees.
o Conduct regular safety inspections and fire drills.
o Ensure infection control and hazardous materials handling protocols are followed.
Budget & Resource Management
o Prepare and manage departmental operating and capital budgets.
o Monitor expenditures and ensure cost-effective operations.
o Negotiate and manage vendor contracts for maintenance and repair services.
Leadership & Staff Development
o Promote a culture of safety and continuous improvement.
o Ensure staff competency in emergency preparedness and disaster response.
Emergency Preparedness
o Provide 24 / 7 coverage for emergencies related to facility operations.
o Develop contingency plans for utility failures and natural disasters.
