The salary of the finalist selected for this role will be set based on a variety of factors, including but not limited to departmental budgets, qualifications, experience, education, licenses, specialty, and training.

The above hiring range represents the University's good faith and reasonable estimate of the range of possible compensation at the time of posting.

Position Summary

The Program Coordinator advises and coordinates a portfolio of Columbia's global programs. The position supports the Center for Undergraduate Global Engagement with its growing international initiatives by acting as a point of contact for student advising, enhancing student programming, coordinating administrative efforts, and collaborating on the development of new programs and learning opportunities for students.

Responsibilities

Advising and Program Management

  • Understand and communicate Columbia's curriculum and study abroad policies in order to best advise potential students seeking global learning experiences.
  • Maintain broad familiarity with Columbia's global programs in order to assist students in selecting the option most consistent with their academic and personal goals.
  • Advise students throughout the full cycle of program selection, application, admission, pre-departure, and re-entry.
  • Manage a portfolio of programs working in close collaboration with faculty and / or resident directors, overseas institutions, third-party organizations, and institutions sending students on Columbia programs.
  • Update all program materials including website and printed brochures or flyers to present information in a captivating manner while ensuring accuracy.
  • Use Terra Dotta software to manage the admissions and pre-departure process for students.
  • Work with the finance team to update and manage the program budgets. Collaborate with the finance team to ensure the hiring of faculty and staff and payment of vendors.
  • Organize and develop robust pre-departure and re-entry programming including and developing creative ways to address population or program-specific needs.
  • Coordinate global learning and program evaluation process, updates, and reporting. Assess and evaluate programs annually to improve or develop new opportunities.
  • Integrates international students participating in the University's exchange programs. Serve as an ongoing resource for exchange students.

Outreach and Communications

Assist in the outreach of the Center for Undergraduate Global Engagement, in conjunction with program staff, for appropriate academic and administrative departments, faculty, partner institutions, and students.

This includes managing online content, social media, and print materials as well as working with peer advisors and student groups.

  • Act as a liaison with other universities for study abroad fair participation including representing the programs at the study abroad fairs, organizing staff to participate, and following up with potential applicants, faculty, and advisors.
  • Assist with the recruitment and training of Peer Advisers in one-on-one advising techniques, event planning, and promotion, and promote intercultural learning among Peer Advisers and the outreach constituencies.

Program Development

  • Contribute to the planning and development of existing and new programs. Provide expertise from the community of practice to faculty and program directors in the program development process.
  • Review student evaluations and make recommendations that enhance the program experience to faculty directors, onsite staff, and other stakeholders.

Other responsibilities as assigned.

Minimum Qualifications

  • Bachelor's degree required.
  • Minimum of 0-2 years of related experience, including some advising of students.
  • Excellent writing and speaking skills; demonstrated web, administrative, and organizational skills.
  • Working knowledge of micro-applications such as Word and Excel, and the capacity to learn relevant online student database and academic support management systems.
  • Familiarity with liberal arts college curricula; demonstrated ability to work with a minimum of day-to-day supervision.
  • Capacity to represent overseas programs to students and study abroad advisors at other colleges and universities required.
  • Excellent communication and presentation skills.
  • Demonstrated administrative and organizational skills.
  • Working knowledge of Google suite and Microsoft applications required.
  • Possess the capacity to learn relevant administrative applications such as Studio Abroad, Qualtrics, and Canvas. Ability to work with minimal day-to-day supervision and as part of a team.
  • Must demonstrate good independent judgment.

Preferred Qualifications

  • Knowledge of another language, database, and publishing software such as InDesign preferred.
  • Knowledge of InDesign and another language strongly preferred.
