Position Primary Purpose and General Responsibilities

The VCU C. Kenneth and Dianne Wright Centerfor Clinical and Translational Research at Virginia Commonwealth Universityis seeking an OAA Toolkit Program Manager.

The VCU Toolkit for Virginia Cities and Counties is a collaborative effort between VCU, the Virginia Opioid Abatement Authority and the Virginia Society of Addiction Medicine aimed at developing a comprehensive resource to support opioid abatement efforts.

This initiative involves the creation of an online toolkit tailored to the individual needs of communities across Virginia, providing evidence-based practices, expert consultation, and data analysis to inform decision-making and resource allocation.

This Program Manager, assigned to the Toolkit for Virginia Cities and Counties project, will play a pivotal role in overseeing the development and implementation of an evidence-based resource aimed at supporting opioid abatement efforts across Virginia.

Working in collaboration the Virginia Society of Addiction Medicine (VASAM) and other partners, the incumbent will lead efforts to ensure effective utilization of Virginia Opioid Abatement Authority (VOAA) funded projects, facilitate community engagement, and manage the coordination of project activities.

General Responsibilities of the role are as follows :

Manage Coordination of Toolkit Project Activitie s - Manage and monitor all OAA funded projects to ensure adherence to timelines and achievement of desired outcomes.

Analyze and resolve issues that have the potential to jeopardize performance / outcomes. This may include taking an active role in sourcing, curating, and developing resources for the toolkit, serving as the primary liaison with subject matter experts, compiling relevant research, creating educational materials, and ensuring that the Toolkit remains comprehensive and up-to-date.

Serve as Project Point of Contact - Act as the primary contact for cities and counties seeking to initiate new OAA projects, providing guidance and support throughout the process.

This may include expanding and nurturing partnerships with other organizations, agencies, and stakeholders involved in opioid abatement efforts, identifying potential collaborators, fostering relationships, and exploring opportunities for synergistic initiatives that complement the goals of the Toolkit project.

Develop Project Goals - Collaborate with cities and counties to establish project goals aligned with OAA funding principles and community needs.

Working directly with principal investigators conducting ongoing research and evaluation of best practices in opioid abatement, public health interventions, and community engagement strategies, incumbent will stay abreast of the latest developments, research findings, and innovations in the field to continuously improve the effectiveness of the Toolkit.

Facilitate Team Meetings - Schedule and document regular meetings of the VCU OAA Toolkit team and VOAA leadership, ensuring effective communication and collaboration.

This may include developing and delivering training sessions, workshops, and capacity-building initiatives for stakeholders involved in opioid abatement efforts, providing guidance on the use of the Toolkit, facilitating skill-building exercises, and sharing knowledge on effective intervention strategies.

Community Engagement - Working with the Wright Center’s Community Engagement team, help to develop and implement strategies for engaging with communities affected by opioid misuse and addiction.

This could involve organizing community forums, conducting outreach events, and soliciting feedback from community members to ensure that the toolkit remains responsive to their needs and priorities.

Minimum Hiring Standards

  • Bachelor's degree in public health, social sciences, public administration, or related field.
  • Minimum of 3 years of experience in program management, public health administration, or related field
  • Demonstrated ability to clearly articulate specific information in area of project management
  • Experience working with community-based initiatives and coordinating multidisciplinary teams.
  • Excellent communication, organization, and stakeholder engagement
  • Demonstrated experience working in and fostering a diverse faculty, staff and student environment or commitment to do so as a staff member at VCU

Preferred Hiring Standards

  • Strong understanding of opioid abatement strategies, evidence-based practices, and public health principles
  • Master's degree in public health, social sciences, public administration, or related field
