Department Summary
The UCLA Center for LGBTQ+ Advocacy, Research, and Health (C-LARAH) is part of the Fielding School of Public Health, within the Department of Epidemiology.
LARAH is derived from the Latin word hilaris, meaning cheerful. The mission of C-LARAH is to maintain an interdisciplinary, research-driven, evidence-based platform used to carry out public policy initiatives that improve the health and social well-being of sexual and gender minorities.
C-LARAH is directed by Dr. Matthew Mimiaga.
Position Summary
Seeking a detail-oriented Medical Examiner with exceptional communication skills to join our team. In this role, you'll be instrumental in conducting examinations, blood draws, and specimen collection on research subjects.
Your responsibilities will also involve engaging in meaningful discussions with subjects regarding medical assessments or treatments, maintaining regular telephone contact, and actively participating in follow-ups to ensure the integrity of our research.

Salary & Compensation
UCLA provides a full pay range. Actual salary offers consider factors, including budget, prior experience, skills, knowledge, abilities, education, licensure and certifications, and other business considerations.

Qualifications
- 3+ years Clinical experience (Preferred)
- Experience and ability to positively interact with a diverse campus community. (Required)
- Knowledge of the course and treatment of HIV disease and its complications. (Required)
- Skill in using aseptic techniques in the collection of biological specimens. (Required)
- Knowledge, skill and ability to maintain strict confidentiality. (Required)
- Skill and ability to converse clearly and concisely in English using appropriate vocabulary to obtain and convey information. (Required)
- Skill and ability to write clearly and concisely in English. Ability to converse in Spanish with those with limited English (Required)
- Ability to recognize problem situations and take appropriate action, including notification of appropriate personnel. (Required)
- Knowledge and learn to operate effectively the following equipment according to study protocols : GE MAC 1600 ECG, Echosens FibroScan, NDD Medical Easy1 Pro, PFT / DLCO, Dinamap Pro1 & Oral / Dental camera. (Required)
- Strong organizational, communication and writing skills. Excellent written, verbal, interpersonal communications, active listening, and political acumen skills. (Required)
- Skill and ability (CA driver's license) to share team driving duties to remote work sites. (Required)
- Strong work ethic and ability to produce high quality work under deadline pressures. Ability to analyze, organize, and prioritize work while meeting multiple deadlines. (Required)
- Ability to lift and to move short distances equipment or packages that weigh up to 15 lbs (7 Kg). (Required)
- Computer proficiency in MS Office (Word, Excel, Outlook, Access). (Required)
Education, Licenses, Certifications & Personal Affiliations
- Bachelor's Degree in human biological studies, clinical sciences, or a related field. 2 years human subjects research experience or equivalent education and clinical experience. (Required)
- Master's Degree in human biological studies, clinical sciences or related fields (Preferred)
- Skill and State certification to perform phlebotomy, or ability and willingness to acquire the skills and certification (Required)
