JOB SUMMARY

The Head Strength / Conditioning / Nutrition Head Coach will proactively work with coaching staff under the supervision of Sports Medicine to design, teach, implement, and monitor strength / conditioning / nutrition programs for student-athletes in SNU Athletics.

All such programs will be designed and implemented with the maximum health, recovery and performance aspects for student-athletes taken into consideration.

This position must work within SNU, the NCAA guidelines to provide student-athletes with an exceptional collegiate experience while competing for championships.

They must have a strong Christian commitment with a vital Christian faith and lifestyle while being supportive of the Mission of Southern Nazarene University.

RESPONSIBILITIES

Essential Functions :

  • Design strength / conditioning / nutrition programs for individual student-athletes and teams.
  • Teach fundamental / certified best practices regarding strength / conditioning / nutrition programs for individual student-athletes and teams with a focus on injury prevention and enhanced performance.
  • Work with coaches to schedule and implement strength / conditioning / nutrition programs for individual student-athletes and teams organizing schedules across multiple sports and seasons at once.
  • Monitor the completion of strength / conditioning / nutrition programs for individual student-athletes and teams.
  • Continue ongoing strength / conditioning / nutrition education backed by data to support techniques and practices.
  • Help maintain all SNU weight room facilities in the Sawyer Center including making update / upgrade recommendations to align with new strength & conditioning techniques and data.
  • This position could also be counted upon to assist in Game Day operations when needed.
  • Be a Christlike example and create opportunities for student-athletes to grow and develop spiritually ensuring consistent movement towards SNU’s Mission to make Christlike disciples through higher education.

Qualifications

Required Qualifications :

  • Southern Nazarene University is an expression of the Church of the Nazarene. According to SNU policy, all faculty and staff must possess a strong personal Christian commitment and be committed to the SNU Mission to make Christlike disciples through higher education.
  • An understanding of the importance for diversity, inclusion and equity.
  • They need to possess strong character traits and ministry values that express what God can do through them in impacting the coaches, student-athletes, SNU employees and outside persons with whom they interact.
  • Needs to passionately support and articulate the University Mission.
  • Must have at least a bachelor’s degree in an applicable field.
  • A heartfelt commitment to excellence in academics and athletics.
  • Demonstrate strong interpersonal skills and the ability to communicate effectively with both internal and external constituencies.
  • Demonstrate experience working and implementing initiatives that promote diversity, equity, and inclusion.
  • Highly organized and skilled in problem-solving and conflict resolution.
  • Experience in the strength & conditioning field with appropriate certifications.

Preferred Qualifications :

Experience in nutrition.

Supervision Received :

Reports to the Assistant AD of Sports Medicine

Supervision Exercised :

At least graduate assistants as the Head / Assistant Coaches and Assistant AD of Sports Medicine direct and coordination of volunteers & student workers possibly
