GENERAL SUMMARY / OVERVIEW STATEMENT :

The Sleep Disorders Research Program is committed to find cutting edge technologies to predict sleep apnea diagnosis and outcome and is paving the way to find pharmacotherapy for sleep apnea.

The Sleep Disorder Research Program has considerably advanced the field in the past few years with groundbreaking physiological and pharmaceutical discoveries.

At the Lab you will be working on one (or more) of the innovative physiological / pharmaceutical projects conducted by the Principal Investigators.

Working very independently with little guidance from Project Manager and / or Principal Investigator, you will coordinate all activities of research area including but not limited to : supervising the daily activities of research assistants, implementing and maintaining quality assurance procedures, performing statistical analyses, designing research protocols with Principal Investigator.

Your noteworthy contribution will also appear in the papers that we will send for publication to international journals.

Experience and adeptness are required for data management, research regulation, analysis, report preparation, and implementation of research protocols.

PRINCIPAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES :

1. Directly supervises the activities of Research Assistants, including hiring, firing, performance evaluation and discipline of staff.

2. In collaboration with Project Coordinator and or PI, develops, implements and / or maintains an orientation and training program for all staff.

3. May coordinate all (or portion) of research study activities. Function as a resource for all study issues. Identifies problems and develops solutions.

4. Designs, implements, and evaluates recruitment strategies for study participants.

5. Responsible for weekend overnight / evening data collection, validation and quality control. Overnight shifts are assigned weekly with a maximum of 2 per week.

6. Interact with patients / subjects with regard to study, including patient education, procedural instruction, follow-up.

May serve as a liaison between patient and physician.

7. Responsible for overseeing the data collection process. Ensures integrity of patient data.

8. Implements and maintains quality assurance procedures and systems.

9. Plans, designs and performs statistical analyses.

10. In collaboration with PI, develops and implements new research protocols including design, data collection systems, and institutional review board approval.

Responsible for writing new grants.

11. Develops and maintains computer acquisition configurations. Performs / assists with research physiological testing including PSG, EMG, oximetry, etc.

12. In collaboration with PI, prepares and may present certain portions of presentations, in addition to preparing articles for publication.

13. May be responsible to monitor grant budget, in collaboration with PI or Project Coordinator.

14. All other duties, as assigned, as needed to ensure the success of the research studies in our lab.

Qualifications

QUALIFICATIONS : BS or BA

BS or BA

3-5 years of directly related, progressively more responsible, experience.

Supervisory experience preferred.

SKILLS / ABILITIES / COMPETENCIES REQUIRED :

  • Must possess the ability to work independently and display initiative to introduce innovations to research study.
  • Must have sound interpersonal skills and the ability to supervise others.
  • Must possess strong analytical skills and conceptual thinking.
  • Excellent oral and written communication skills.
  • Ability to prioritize tasks and set deadlines.
  • Ability to identify problems and develop solutions.
  • High degree of computer literacy.
  • Ability to learn quickly local and federal regulatory procedures for research

WORKING CONDITIONS :

  • Moderate exposure to hazardous / dangerous working conditions.
  • Variable shifts including day, evening, and night.
  • Work takes place in a busy academic research office setting.
  • The work schedule will involve M-F day shifts. Studies run M-Th evenings; in rare circumstances we may ask the SRA to be available to oversee activities outside the daytime hours (in person or remotely).

SUPERVISORY RESPONSIBILITY :

Responsible for directly supervising Research Assistants in area. Trains and orients staff, in addition to hiring, firing, evaluating and disciplining.

Coordinates staffing and schedule.
