About the Role
We are seeking an experienced Technical Manager to oversee multiple engineering teams and drive cross-functional initiatives that directly support our enterprise-scale technology programs. This leader will be responsible for guiding technical direction, ensuring high-quality delivery, and aligning execution with business priorities. Acting as a bridge between engineering, product, and business stakeholders, the Technical Manager will play a pivotal role in scaling solutions, improving operational efficiency, and fostering innovation.
Key Responsibilities
Leadership & Oversight
Lead, mentor, and develop multiple cross-functional engineering teams (backend, frontend, DevOps, QA, etc.).
Define clear goals, KPIs, and accountability frameworks for teams and technical leads.
Partner with Directors, Product Managers, and Architects to set strategic priorities and ensure alignment.
Delivery Management
Own end-to-end delivery of critical initiatives, ensuring adherence to timelines, budgets, and quality standards.
Manage interdependencies across teams, resolving blockers and ensuring smooth handoffs.
Drive consistent use of best practices in software development, testing, and release management.
Technical Direction & Governance
Provide technical oversight, reviewing architecture / design decisions and ensuring scalability, reliability, and performance.
Establish governance processes for code quality, security, and compliance with enterprise standards.
Partner with enterprise architects to ensure alignment with Gap's long-term technology strategy.
Cross-Functional Collaboration
Act as a key liaison between engineering, product, operations, and business stakeholders.
Translate business objectives into actionable technical roadmaps.
Facilitate transparent communication and reporting across all levels of the organization.
Team & Culture Development
Foster a culture of accountability, innovation, and continuous improvement.
Support professional development and succession planning for technical leads and engineers.
Promote inclusion, collaboration, and a customer-first mindset within teams.
Qualifications
Experience : 10+ years in software engineering with at least 4+ years in a technical management or director-level leadership role.
Leadership : Proven ability to manage multiple teams (40+ engineers total) in a large enterprise or retail technology environment.
Technical Expertise : Strong understanding of modern enterprise architectures (microservices, APIs, cloud-native, containerization, event-driven systems).
Tools & Platforms : Experience with Java, Node.js, Kafka, Kubernetes (AKS), Azure cloud, CI / CD pipelines, and enterprise-scale data solutions.
Delivery : Demonstrated success leading multi-phase projects , balancing competing priorities, and managing stakeholders.
Soft Skills : Excellent communication, conflict-resolution, and organizational skills; ability to influence senior leadership and align diverse teams.
