We are seeking a strategic and collaborative Head of Accounting to lead the accounting function for our Alaska Fuels Distribution Business Unit. This role is pivotal in driving modernization, integrating accounting processes into our ERP systems (Vertrax = new operating system, our ERP = Oracle Fusion), and fostering a culture of transparency, accountability, and partnership across the business.

- Serve as a key thought partner to the BU CVP pf Finance and Operations in shaping the financial operating model and governance structure.
- Proven track record of leading and developing accounting teams across multiple locations, fostering strong collaboration and accountability in hybrid and remote environments.
- Skilled at building rapport and trusted relationships with operations and field teams, ensuring alignment between financial integrity and business execution.
ERP Integration & Process Modernization
Lead the accounting workstream for the 'Vertrax' implementation and ensure seamless integration with Oracle Fusion.Redesign accounting workflows to reduce manual effort and improve data integrity (from an operating system 'Ascend' to 'Vertrax')Drive the end-to-end accounting and financial integration between Vertrax (operating system) and Oracle Fusion (ERP), ensuring real-time financial visibility and data integrity across the order-to-cash and procure-to-pay cycles.Define and enforce standardized accounting close procedures across systems and teams, ensuring seamless data flow and reconciliation between operational (Vertrax / Ascend) and financial (Oracle) environments.Implement automated checks and reports to detect data mismatches, pricing errors, and clearing imbalances early in the cycle.Partner with IT and Operations to align system capabilities with business needs.Financial Reporting & Compliance
Accountable for end-to-end month-end and year-end close governance, including the integrity of subledger interfaces between Ascend, Vertrax, and Oracle Fusion.Oversee pricing validations, clearing account reconciliations, reserve policies (bad debt, obsolete inventory), and allocation entries (linehaul, marine, admin etc.).Ensure all closing activities are performed accurately and on time, with appropriate evidence, approvals, and documentation aligned to audit standards.Ensure compliance with US GAAP and internal controls.Support external audits and reporting requirements tied to debt agreements and regulatory obligations.Tax Oversight & Compliance
Serve as the primary liaison between the BU and Corporate Tax for state and federal tax matters.Ensure accurate and timely preparation of apportionment data for state income tax filings, coordinating with external advisors (e.g., Deloitte).Oversee book-to-tax reconciliations, clearing accounts, and documentation of tax-sensitive transactions.Support compliance with excise tax filings, Form 637, and other fuel-related tax obligations.Collaborate with Corporate Tax on legal entity structuring, nexus reviews, and audit responses.Maintain visibility into tax-related risks and ensure alignment with accounting processes and ERP systems (Vertrax and Oracle Fusion).Operational Partnership
Act as a strategic partner to Operations, Sales, and Finance leadership.Provide clear, actionable financial insights to support decision-making.Translate complex accounting concepts into business-relevant language.Forecasting & Analysis
Collaborate with FP&A and business leaders to support forecasting and budgeting processes.Ensure transparency in cost allocations, clearing accounts, and freight rate structures.Drive variance analysis and communicate results with clarity and context.Qualifications
Bachelor's degree in Accounting or Finance; CPA preferred.10+ years of progressive accounting experience, including leadership roles.Experience in fuel distribution, logistics, or asset-heavy industries preferred.Proven success in ERP implementations (Vertrax, Oracle Fusion, or similar).Strong understanding of US GAAP and internal control frameworks.Exceptional communication and leadership skills.Key Deliverables next 12 months :
Lead the end-to-end accounting implementation of Vertrax, ensuring seamless integration with Oracle Fusion and a stable transition from Ascend.Stabilize and modernize accounting operations post go-live - securing process continuity while embedding stronger controls, automation, and data accuracy.Simplify and standardize core accounting processes (e.g., revenue recognition, inventory, clearing, reserves) to reduce manual effort, shorten close cycle times, and improve visibility.Build cross-functional alignment with Operations, IT, and Shared Services (BOSCOE team) to ensure system configuration reflects business realities and supports decision-making.Transform the accounting culture from siloed and reactive to collaborative, transparent, and accountable - fostering trust, role clarity, and strong business partnership.Deliver measurable improvements in process efficiency, close cycle time, audit readiness, and data reliability, supported by a unified team mindset and system-enabled workflows.
