Agilitas Energy, the largest integrated developer and operator of distributed solar and energy storage systems in the Northeast is now hiring a Director of Development.

We are looking for an energetic and results-driven individual with 10+ years of energy development experience.

The Director of Development will be responsible for leading a greenfield origination team, bringing the company’s early development and pre-NTP solar and energy storage projects to successful NTP and handover to the Company’s EPC group.

Scope of Responsibilities (includes but not limited to) :

  • Originate and maintain a pipeline of new solar and energy storage opportunities that are consistent with the Company’s strategic focus, business plan and project economic thresholds.
  • Set and manage the current project course / business plan along with collaborating with the management team in defining the long-term milestones.
  • Lead the team to analyze and present candidate greenfield projects through the Company’s Technical Review Board, Executive Committee, and Investment Committee approval process.
  • Work collaboratively with the senior executives, other departments, and third parties throughout the development cycle to align resources and execute the Company’s project development plan, including but not limited to, site control, entitlement, interconnection, environmental, zoning, technical issues and regulatory issues.
  • Own and coordinate the Company’s response to RFP’s and project proposals.
  • Provide due diligence support to C-Suite on pre-NTP acquisition targets.
  • Negotiate, review and obtain internal approval for contracts such as leases, interconnection agreements, and power purchase agreements.
  • Own and optimize the development project proformas and economics, support the corporate and finance teams on financing requirements and due diligence responses.
  • Work with the Asset Management Team to develop and maintain key assumptions related to revenue and operating expenses on solar, solar + storage and stand-alone storage.

Validate greenfield development projects based on actual results of the current operating fleet.

  • Develop relationships with local government, utilities, and other stakeholders.
  • Develop a thorough understanding of pertinent State and utility incentive programs.
  • Maintain an understanding of the RTO’s / ISO’s where the Company is developing projects.
  • Gather market and competitive intelligence to facilitate the Company’s and the department growth strategy.
  • Lead, supervise and coach the development team members, control work quality and provide timely and constructive feedback on their performance.
  • Provide regular project status updates and reports to the Company’s senior executives and the Board.

Qualifications :

  • Candidate must have 10+ years’ experience in a development leadership role with a background in managing individuals targeting multiple markets / incentive programs.
  • Candidate must have a working knowledge of project finance and project economics including being able to build project proformas and sensitivity analysis.
  • Business or Engineering degree, along with an MBA, would be advantageous.
  • The candidate must be confident and competent both as a coach and a player.
  • Must have a strong knowledge of the Northeast energy markets.
  • Experience in structuring land leases and / or land acquisition transactions required.
  • Must be onsite 4 days a week, when not traveling.
  • Flexibility in terms of travel and work schedule.
  • Ability to work efficiently within time constraints.
  • Knowledge and firsthand experience regarding the ability to influence cross-functional teams without direct authority is important to this role.
  • Team-oriented with strong interpersonal, organizational, and communication skills.
