Safety Intern

Job Scope :

Liberty Hardware is a 680,000 sq. ft distribution center in Winston-Salem, North Carolina. We are a leading provider of decorative and functional metal products serving a diverse range of customer across the United States.

With over 100 employees, operating three shifts, we are committed to ensuring the safety and well-being of our employees! This role will work closely with our HSE Manager and warehouse team to support the implementation and improvement of safety programs and initiatives.

Responsibilities :

You will assist with conducting safety audits, inspections, and assessments, identifying and reporting hazards, and recommending corrective actions.

You will also help with developing and delivering safety training, conducting incident investigations, and maintaining safety records and documentation.

Implement SDS management system to ensure accuracy of chemical inventory list and safety data sheets. This includes but is not limited to developing new chemical approval process, building chemical inventory list, updating existing SDS binders and making SDS’s accessible electronically.

Create new and update existing programs such as job hazard analysis, PPE assessments, etc.

You will learn about the applicable safety regulations, standards, and best practices in the distribution industry.

At least 50% of this role is administrative in nature to comply with auditing functions, record keeping, detailed SOP updates, training presentation creation, etc.

Requirements and Key Competencies :

You are currently enrolled in a bachelor's program in occupational safety and health, industrial hygiene, environmental engineering, supply chain, business or a related field.

You have a strong interest and passion for safety and a desire to learn and grow in this field.

You have excellent verbal and written communication, interpersonal, and organizational skills.

You are proficient in Microsoft Office applications and have the ability to use various safety software and tools.

You are available to work onsite daily during your scheduled work hours. Position can work a minimum of 20 hours per week, up to a maximum of 40 hours per week, as needed, and as you are available.

You set the schedule that works best for you within the confines of M-F 8a-5p schedule. Initially, this will be a 3 month summer internship with the possibility of extension (based on workload completed, and the hours you are available during the fall).

Position is on-site in Winston-Salem, NC. This position is full-time during the summer with the possibility of a part-time extension during the school year.

Pay Range : $15 - $20 (Hourly)
