POSITION TITLE: WELDING TEACHER REPORTS TO: CTE PRINCIPAL

OVER-TIME STATUS: EXEMPT PAY GRADE: 710

JOB SUMMARY:

Performs professional work providing limited direct instruction and computer assisted services in a specialized subject or assigned group of subjects, motivating students to develop skill in assigned subject matters; does related work as required. Work is performed under the regular supervision of the CTE Principal.

ESSENTIAL DUTIES:

• Develop and implement engaging, standards-based welding lessons covering welding theory, safety procedures, blueprint reading, metallurgy, and welding techniques (e.g., MIG, TIG, Stick, Flux-Cored Arc Welding).
• Align curriculum with state standards, industry requirements, and certifications (e.g., AWS certifications).
• Utilize various instructional methods to accommodate different learning styles and promote skill mastery.
• Provide practical training through welding labs and hands-on projects.
• Demonstrate proper use of welding equipment, tools, and techniques in cutting, joining, and repairing metal.
• Supervise students to ensure adherence to safety standards and best practices during lab activities.
• Enforce safety protocols and regulations, including the proper use of personal protective equipment (PPE).
• Maintain welding equipment, tools, and facilities to ensure operational safety and efficiency.
• Conduct regular safety drills and inspections to reinforce safe work habits.
• Design and administer assessments to evaluate student progress, skills acquisition, and knowledge retention.
• Provide constructive feedback to students and develop individualized plans for improvement.
• Prepare students for industry-recognized welding certifications and assessments.
• Stay current with advancements in welding technology, techniques, and industry standards.
• Collaborate with industry professionals to enhance curriculum relevance and provide students with real-world experiences.
• Participate in professional development activities, workshops, and conferences.
• Create and maintain an organized, and engaging learning environment.
• Establish clear expectations for behavior, attendance, and participation.
• Maintain accurate records of student progress, attendance, and achievements.
• Mentor and guide students on career pathways, apprenticeships, and post-secondary opportunities in welding.
• Facilitate student participation in welding competitions, internships, and other student work-based learning experiences.
• Work with colleagues, administrators, and industry partners to improve program quality and relevance.
• Participate in school meetings, committees, and parent conferences as needed.

JOB SPECIFICATIONS/PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS:

Thorough knowledge of subject(s); thorough knowledge of education principles, practices and procedures; thorough knowledge of the principles and methodology of effective

teaching; thorough knowledge of school division rules, regulations and procedures; ability to establish and maintain standards of behavior; ability to deliver articulate oral presentations and written reports; ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships with other staff, students and parents; ability to operate a personal computer.

This is sedentary work requiring the exertion of up to 10 pounds of force occasionally and a negligible amount of force frequently or constantly to move objects, and some light work requiring the exertion of up to 20 pounds of force occasionally, up to 10 pounds of force frequently, and a negligible amount of force constantly to move objects; work requires stooping, kneeling, reaching, standing, walking, pushing, pulling, lifting, and repetitive motions; vocal communication is required for expressing or exchanging ideas by means of the spoken word; hearing is required to perceive information at normal spoken word levels; visual acuity is required for preparing and analyzing written or computer data, determining the accuracy and thoroughness of work, and observing general surroundings and activities; the worker is subject to inside and outside environmental conditions. Some teaching specialties (i.e. music, art, physical education, etc.) may require hearing, vision, physical coordination and/or exertion and effort in excess of those listed above.

EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE:

Must possess a Bachelor's or Master's degree in education or a related field. Must possess or be eligible for a Virginia Collegiate Professional License, Postgraduate Professional License or Provisional License with appropriate endorsement to teach specific subject areas.
