Local Hire Community Education Specialist
The Federal Emergency Management Agency (FEMA) has an immediate need to employ temporary local hires to assist with disaster response and recovery efforts in Gainesville, Florida. Local hire employees are typically local residents who aid in the recovery of their community and help their fellow citizens in the recovery process. A local hire's term of employment is 120 days. Local Hire appointments may be extended, in 120-day increments, based on the needs of the disaster.
In this position, you will provide community outreach for Hazard Mitigation programs.
Typical assignments include :
- Providing advice and assistance on Hazard Mitigation program concepts, rules, regulations, and processes through a variety of venues; including Disaster Recovery Centers (DRCs), retail outlets, community meetings and the news media.
- Implementing educational strategies to educate communities on the impact of adopting damage prevention measures.
- Providing basic community and education and outreach technical assistance to internal and external partners.
- Collecting mitigation-specific disaster data to support operational adjustments.
- Recording disaster survivor interactions, trends, and emerging issues.
