Departmental Overview

The Department of Recreation & Wellbeing provides competitive and recreational opportunities for students, faculty, staff and campus affiliated community members. In addition to the 30 sports clubs, the department offers a wide range of recreational activities and state of the art equipment.

Position Summary

Involves instructional or program activities related to recreation, leisure, and fitness in an accredited environment; provides first aid and emergency care as necessary, and responds to user / customer needs. Works for Adventures Adult programs and serves as a dockhand, supporting boat rental and program customers.

Locations include : the ocean and bay in all-weather types.

Responsibilities

• Provides advanced or specialized activity support to program participants and rental customers, individually or in groups.
• Provides land and water support to keep customers safe on and off the water in remote locations and under moderate to occasional severe outdoor conditions.
• Maintains a supportive environment for program participants and facilitates involvement.
• Interacts with recreational program participants in a positive manner.
• Assist instructors with setup and takedown of their courses.
• May lead other dockhands and provide guidance and instruction to other program instructors on best practices, procedures, methods and techniques on program and survival activities.
• May certify participants in various activities.
• Keeps current on teaching methods, techniques and skills through continuing education and certification.
• Participates in required professional development activities.

Salary & Benefits

This is a 12-month, part-time (8 hours / week), contract appointment. This is a non-exempt position, which is paid biweekly at an hourly rate.

This range takes into account the wide range of factors that are considered in making compensation decisions including but not limited to experience, skills, knowledge, abilities, education, licensure and certifications, analysis of internal equity, and other business and organizational needs. It is not typical for an individual to be offered a salary at or near the top of the range for a position. Salary offers are determined based on final candidate qualifications and experience.

The budgeted hourly range that the University reasonably expects to pay for this position is $22.22 - $27.00.
