We're seeking a skilled and detail-oriented Senior Accountant to support the financial operations of our growing organization. Reporting to the Controller, this role is key in strengthening accounting systems, maintaining internal controls, and ensuring accurate financial reporting and compliance.
This is an excellent opportunity for a hands-on, mission-driven professional who enjoys improving processes, building scalable systems, and ensuring financial integrity in a collaborative, fast-paced environment. This position offers the potential to move into the Controller role within a short timeframe.
Key Responsibilities
Accounting & Reporting
- Manage day-to-day accounting, including general ledger maintenance, journal entries, reconciliations, and payables / receivables.
- Prepare monthly financial reports and support year-end statements and audit schedules.
- Maintain organized, GAAP-compliant records and ensure adherence to nonprofit accounting standards.
Budgeting & Analysis
Assist with annual budgets, forecasts, and variance analysis.Prepare financial data and tools that support leadership decisions and program performance evaluation.Grant & Donor Fund Accounting
Track and reconcile restricted and unrestricted funds.Support grant budget monitoring, donor reporting, and ensure spending aligns with grant requirements and donor intent.Systems & Process Improvement
Support the implementation of new accounting systems and documentation of workflows and controls.Identify and recommend opportunities to improve efficiency and accuracy.Audit & Compliance
Assist with audits, schedules, and documentation.Support regulatory filings and ensure compliance with internal policies and nonprofit requirements.Qualifications
Bachelor's degree in Accounting, Finance, or related field required; CPA preferred.3-5 years of progressive accounting experience, ideally in a nonprofit environment.Strong understanding of GAAP and nonprofit fund accounting.Experience with grant or restricted fund tracking highly desirable.Proficiency with accounting software and Microsoft Excel.Exceptional attention to detail, organization, and communication skills.Ability to work independently, manage multiple priorities, and deliver results.Proactive, reliable, and solutions-oriented team player.Compensation & Benefits
