Faculty Director (Open to UNL Faculty Only)
Description of Work
The Faculty Director of the University Honors Program reports to the Senior Associate Vice Chancellor and Dean of Undergraduate Education through a .
49 FTE faculty position (100% administration). The term for the appointment is three years and renewable upon the Executive Vice Chancellor’s discretion.
Specific responsibilities for the Faculty Director of the University Honors Program include the following :
- Teach one honors semester both fall and spring semester and maintain office hours within the University Honors Program office.
- Participate in weekly Honors staff meetings.
- Represent the University Honors Program at recruitment and engagement events (Distinguished Scholars Day, Admitted Student Day, Graduation Receptions, etc.).
- Collaborate with academic colleges and honors partners (Raikes, College of Business Honors Academy, etc.) to develop innovative and interdisciplinary honors curriculum and sponsor faculty interest for teaching within the Program.
- Oversee and continually update the Honors 102 curriculum in collaboration with the faculty and staff who teach it.
- Consult with Honors faculty to provide support and resource referrals to address Honors students’ needs and concerns.
- Coordinate professional development for Honors Program faculty (workshops, orientations) through collaboration with the Center for Transformative Teaching and other campus units.
- Cultivate the honors alumni advisory group and other external constituencies.
Expected 1.0 FTE appointment as .49 Faculty Director (administration) and .51 Faculty appointment (teaching / research / service).
