Corrections Officer
This position requires a thorough knowledge of jail procedures. The Corrections Officer has daily contact with the public and is responsible for the general supervision, safety, and security of inmates and the facility as assigned, in his / her duty station. The Corrections Officer is responsible for the preparation of booking data, incident, and other prisoner-related reports.

Education and / or experience : High school diploma or GED equivalent is required. One (1) year of experience is desirable. Must pass : written test; agility test, criminal history background check, drug screen, physical exam and psychological exam.
Certificates, Licenses, Registration : Must have a valid Texas driver's license; certification as a Jailer by the Texas Commission on Law Enforcement (TCOLE) is required within the first year of hire; must meet the minimum standards for enrollment and initial licensure with the Texas Commission on Law Enforcement. Must successfully complete and pass the Comal County Sheriff's Office Physical Readiness Testing Program.
Language skills : Ability to read and comprehend simple instructions, short correspondence, and memos. Ability to write simple correspondence. Ability to effectively present information in one-on-one and small group situations to customers, clients, and other employees of the organization.
Mathematical skills : Ability to add, subtract, multiply, and divide in all units of measure, using whole numbers, common fractions, and decimals. Ability to compute rate, ratio, and percent and to draw and interpret bar graphs.
Reasoning ability : Ability to apply common sense understanding to carry out instructions furnished in written, oral, or diagram form. Ability to deal with problems involving several concrete variables in standardized situations.
Other skills and abilities : The individual should possess a thorough working knowledge of jail procedures and practices. One (1) year of experience is desirable. Other specialized job requirements include fingerprinting and computer use.
Physical demands : Must be physically fit and pass a physical exam by a medical doctor. In order to meet the physical demands of the job (handling of violent prisoners, etc.) must have full use of extremities.
Work environment : The noise level in the work environment is usually moderate.
