University HospitalsCleveland MedicalCenter (UHCMC)andCaseWesternReserveUniversity (CWRU)is seeking a medical biochemical geneticsphysician or physician / scientist(full or part-timeapplicantswill bothbe considered).

This position will support growthinmedicalbiochemicalgeneticsandtranslational geneticsand genomicsinclinicalpracticeat themajorteachingaffiliateof theCWRU SchoolofMedicine (SOM).

Clinical and metabolic geneticservices are provided by the Center for Human Genetics (CHG) throughout the UniversityHospitals system, acrossthe full spectrum of ageandconditions.

Clinical activities canbeadaptedto meetthe clinical and / orresearchinterests ofthesuccessfulapplicant and will includeoutpatient metabolism clinicsaswell asinpatient / emergencyon-call coveragefor pediatric and adult patients with generalgenetic disorders as well as inborn errors of metabolism.

Inpatient / emergencycallis currently shared among 8 geneticists in our group, leading to on call responsibilitiesoccurring 3-4 daysper month (some remotebackup callservice is divided among the medical biochemical geneticistsin ourgroup for those who arenot boardedin biochemical genetics).

Strengths of ourprograminclude clinicaland researchopportunities ingeneralgenetics(8 board certified clinical geneticists) and biochemical genetics (3 board certified biochemical geneticists), neurogenetics(2 boardcertifiedneurogeneticists),prenatalgenetics,cancergeneticsandbioethics.

We have 11 geneticcounselors,1 metabolic dieticiansand a full timemetabolic nurseamongadditional support from medical assistants, geneticcounselingassistants, etc.

The CHG ispart of the Departmentof Geneticsand Genome Sciences atthe SOMthatincludesPhD researchers, so thereareample opportunities forresearchcollaborations.

There aremany teaching opportunities in our SOM, clinical geneticsresidency program, medicalbiochemical geneticsfellowship program, geneticcounselingprogram, andseveral additionalgraduateschool programs.

UHCMC and CWRU areresearch sites for the North American Mitochondrial Disease Consortiumand the UreaCycle DisordersConsortiumaswellassitesforseveralotherindustry-sponsoredclinicaltrialsandregistriesin a broadrangeofmetabolic disorders (includingOTCgenetherapyandupcoming PKUgenetherapytrials among otherintervention focused trials).

Supportfor theclinicalresearchstudiesis provided by twofull time researchassistants (with plans to add a third) and a full time regulatoryspecialist.

Other opportunities for clinical, translationaland basic science researchabound.

QUALIFICATIONS

Qualifications

Candidatesare expectedtobe excellent collaborators,creativein providing clinical care,willingteachers and advisors at thegraduateand post-graduatelevel, willing to provideservice atlocal, regionaland national levels depending on academicrank,andtoshow consistentscholarlyproductivity.

Applicants must have a MD, MD / PhD, or DOdegree, board certificationin clinical genetics and clinical or medical biochemical genetics (or activecandidate status) by the American BoardofMedicalGenetics and Genomics, andmust be able toobtain anactive medicallicense in thestate ofOhio.
