Location : San Diego, CA. This is a hybrid role and must be on site at least 3x a week.
Position Summary
As part of Illumina's People Support and Care (PS&C) function, the Senior HR Generalist serves as a strategic advisor and coach to business management. This role is pivotal in driving employee relations, performance management, policy interpretation, and organizational change. The Senior HR Generalist partners closely with HR Business Partners and other HR team members to deliver proactive, inclusive, and scalable HR support that reflects our culture and commitment to inclusivity and belonging.
Key Responsibilities
Employee Relations
- Provide high-quality HR advisory services on absence, health, conduct, capability, grievances, and organizational change.
- Investigate and resolve complex employee relations issues, including harassment and discrimination claims for the US and Canada, while supporting other regions as needed.
- Act as an advocate for employees by resolving employee experience issues when possible while balancing business needs.
Policy & Compliance
Interpret and apply HR policies and procedures across multiple regions.Ensure compliance with local labor laws and regulations.Support the development and rollout of HR programs and initiatives.Performance & Change Management
Guide leaders through performance management processes and organizational transitions.Support crisis management and change initiatives with empathy and strategic insight.Ability to deliver difficult feedback and support through conflict resolution.HR Program Delivery
Assist in implementing HR plans and programs in partnership with HRBPs.Facilitate learning and development initiatives and team events.Contribute to HR metrics, data analysis, and reporting to drive proactive decision-making.Project Management
Lead or support HR-related projects from initiation through delivery.Collaborate cross-functionally to ensure successful execution and alignment with business goals.Qualifications
Five years' experience as an HR Generalist or advisory role, ideally within a global or matrixed organization.Bachelor's degree or equivalent experience.Strong knowledge of employment law and HR best practices.Excellent interpersonal, coaching, and conflict-resolution skills.Ability to manage ambiguity and navigate complex organizational dynamics.Proficiency in HR systems (e.g., Workday, ServiceNow) and data reporting tools.Preferred Qualifications
Master's degree in HR or MBA.HR certification such as PHR or SHRM-CP.Demonstrated commitment to fostering a culture of care and inclusion.Strategic mindset with the ability to influence and partner with senior leaders.Experience supporting multi-region HR operations and initiatives.Comfortable working in fast-paced, high-change environments.
